Your car does not have a choke. Cold start enrichment of the fuel mixture is controlled by the engine management ECU.
Ball and rubber - cruise control, me thinks.

There is no oil pressure gauge. There IS an oil level gauge, which shows the oil level in the sump when switching on the ignition. After the engine is running it returns to zero.

| Where's the oil filter and whats the FRAM part #? |
It's located on the bottom of the engine block, at the right-front of the vehicle.
I'll see if I can find the part number, and if I were you I would not run the engine (again) before changing the oil.

This definitely is the bellows of the Cruise control

Engine oil filters for your XM:

| throttle pedal is hard. how to fix it? In the car's history there's more then one request to solve this. |
You have a lot of tricky questions
Uhh, you could try to detach the cable from the throttle body and see if the pedal is still binding. If it is, it is something with the cable. Oxidation, or it's bent out of shape somewhere. If it's not the cable, clearly the fault is in the throttle operating mechanism. A faulty adjustment of the mechanism, kick-down cable or just lack of lubrication. I can only guess

Hi cmacedo,
Citroen oil filter has part number 1109.S8 (Purflux type LS880A) and costs £14.15 from a UK dealer.
Fram equivalent is PH5831.
Attached parts list and diagram shows filter and oil pressure switch.

Jan and Ken
thanks for helping. I'll get the manual today, so I have no idea of the cluster. The oil is ok in the dipstick, clean. I starded the engine just to raise the susp, otherwise theres no way to remove from the parking, the ramp's severe, one level down lots of concrete columns. Dot matrix said to turn off engine, but I ran for a few seconds only and the oil viscosity is ok but old, by the way previous owner did all maintenace at dealer using only original parts and Motul oil. May I tow with a rope? Is there brake w/o engine?steering is possible just to manuver inside the parking? Any damage if i do that?

No brakes without hydraulic pressure - engine must be running. Change the oil and run the engine! Towing with all 4 wheels on the ground short distances OK. There are towing rings at the front and at the rear.

What do you suggest for the oil? Motul, Shell, etc. I like Mobil. Whats the spec for the oil?

15W-40 should be fine for your climate. Mobil, or any other reputable brand is great

Have you looked for the owner's manual in the car? On UK RHD models it is stored inside the hinged cover over the fuse panel (lower left side). I'm not sure what the arrangement is on LHD models.
My handbook recommends Total 15W-40 grade (Total Quartz 5000) for a petrol model in an ambient temperature range minus 15 to plus 40 degrees centigrade (or 20W-50 for -10 to +50 centigrade).
Any well known brand of an equivalent grade should suffice - most multigrade oils these days are semi synthetic blends. Using fully synthetic oil, eg Mobil 1, is a very expensive option (and unecessary in my opinion).

[QUOTE]
The plastic gaiter on the front suspension strut is normally a push fit on to the underside of the strut top mount and protects the piston rod from road dirt.
Your photo of the rear left side appears to show that the back silencer box is in pretty bad shape and a replacement will be required. Otherwise the underside looks in good condition.
Ref the apparent lack of oil pressure- there are two possible warnings. One is the red oil can sign in the dash display which normally goes out as soon as the engine fires. The other warning which I believe you saw is given on the dot matrix display and gives a warning 'beep' with the message 'Engine oil pressure - Stop immediately'. I would be very wary about running the engine until you get to the bottom of these warnings! It may be worthwhile after you have changed the oil and filter to spin the engine on the starter with the plugs removed and the injection system temporarily disabled (not sure how you do this - disconnect ECU? - better advice anyone?) just to make absolutely sure that there is oil pressure / circulation. The dashboard warning light (red oil can) should go out if you crank for long enough.

Good to hear you got her running, that's excellent.
Agree with Jan on the choke - its the cruise actuator, so move it out of the way and turn off the cruise control until you can obtain a replacement part...
Stiff throttle - most likely it is the cam on the throttle that is seizing, generous application of grease should get it freed up as the little roller is probably the cause. Also a squirt of oil down the cable itself probably wouldn't hurt if it's been sat a while.
Pedals don't look worn to me.
Oil level/pressure - not seen an oil pressure warning, and as Jan says, the guage is the level indicator. Was the dash reporting LHM or engine oil pressure? After initial start after so long idle, it may have been the HP warning for the hydraulics it was warning about - you get that if you drop the car to low too. I'd agree about changing the oil befire running the engine for long too.
As for the front struts, very worrying, do not remove those straps!
Looks to me like the lower part of the rubber has failed as the gaitor should be attached to it. Be sure to check for splits & tears of the rubber from underneath with the car on jacks and set to low. Are both sides the same?

Dave

Those front strut tops from underneath actually look VERY GOOD to me and have nothing to worry about, so Id remove those straps and not limit their movments...
This car overall LOOKS in fantastic order, I doubt youd find one in that good order for a 1996 model...
Watch the warning for the oil, it can be either Engine Oil or Hydraulic pressure. I would trust the RED oil can warning light more then a message.. if the oil can is going out then oil must be getting around.. with standing Id imagine there will be a few niggles with the time shes been standing..

Once more THANKS
I made a mistake, was looking for the oil pressure on the dash and when watch the matrix read "arrete" so I turned off the engine, this morning came back to the parking and tried again, oil is ok, changed in 2004 with 64000 km very clean, now she has 68025 km. The warning was for "eau" water level. Started again under a fog and drove to a gas station 1/2 mile away, had oil changed and AMAZINGLY everything is perfect but a noise on the strut caused by the straps, thinking to remove them. Yesterday I seted in normal level susp and this morning was in the same height. Pedal wear is just a joke, its like new. I have to say all of you thanks. later will post more pics of her new, clean, raised and running state.
cheers
