I have had hard time.

about my '00 citroen xm 3.0l late 24v (rp08599)

a few days ago, I felt a sudden bump in the steering wheel while
turning my wheel quickly in a narrow parking lot, lost all the power
steering assist at the same time.

I jumped out, was surprised to see LHM spouting around in front of the mission case.

the cause was this. steering pressure sensor.

was broken right in two. sudden hydo-system dysfunction was inevitable

It' no more than a month and 200miles since I replaced it because of
minor leak on 120000 miles!
It's a shame.

2 questions I hope here are many people more in the know.

1. I wonder whether I have to find and fix any problem within the
steering feed pipe such as provoking abnormally high pressure before I
just fit a new sensor. actually the failed sensor seems to be
aftermarket one, which the seller referred as OE number ; 401509Z as
opposed to genuine 401509, and said it's not compatible with my late
24v xm. it's only that I shoud have follow his discription ?

2. there is another similar part just next to it, named "HP-PUMP PRESSURE LIMITER" . makes me imagine that it limits the too much pressure in the
steering line. its wire goes upwards.

what do you think ?

Mako, you could almost live without that sensor. All it does is signal to the engine ECU when the steering is on full lock to up the idle speed a little to compensate for the heavy load the hydraulic pump is placing on the engine...

Therefore, certainly as a temporary fix you could put a blank plug in there..

The item it screws into is indeed the steering pressure regulator. On all other anti-sink Citroens (as far as I know!) the pressure regulator is integral with the pump but on the ES9 V6 it is separate which makes the V6 pump absolutely unique..

I'm sure the regulator is working because if it wasn't then the steering ram would blow apart...

I'm wondering if the sensor was built to take the pressure. There is a lot there!

thank you for your reassuring comment about limiter. your point was exactly my concern .
the limiter already seems out of stock for this model, it's for narrow target models, can't be helped.

anyway, I can only replace the sensor again and watch what will happen.
it would be technically beyond my ability to survey fully over the complicated steering system such as ram.

　had better commit it to my local garage, if fails again.

it's 3months and 1600 miles since genuine sensor installed.

my xm is working as well as can be !

I am kicking myself for using a wrong sensor for LHM cars,
stupid, stupid, , , , ,

The sensor or switch is used on many different cars. I bought one here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/360651639370?ssPag...984.m1497.l2649 and had the dealer fit it. The old one had a slow leak.

I bought the sensor in ebay like you, but the seller assigned the number 401509"Z", and the collar was blue, not purple, which seem to have spelled the difference between life and death of us.

My replacement sensor has a purple collar and it failed badly in 2 weeks. Maybe that's what you are in for when buying cloned parts
I won't even take it up with the seller. Waste of time.

Actually I did write the seller a message:

quote "Dear neatcarparts,

Unfortunately the sensor started leaking badly in 2 weeks after fitting it. I presume this part which is sold by other sellers as well originates from the same manufacturer. I know at least one person who shares my experience. I feel I have wasted my time and money. unquote

This is the reply:

quote "That's a Genuine OEM part, it got stamp on them. If you are not happy with the item you are most welcome to send it back for the refund or replacement. Thanks." unquote

A replacement is not what I want and sending the part back [hoping] for a refund is too much of a hassle. The dealer can provide the part for a slightly higher price. The reason I bought the part from neatcarparts on ebay was because that seemed the quickest way.

sorry to hear another failure,

but never twice without three times ; maybe we can't rely on their part numbers any more as far as aftermarket steering pressure sensors are concerned.

we have been trying to get reasonable parts somehow, avoiding steep Citroen Japon's offers,
but recently the cost difference is narrowing a little bit due to weak yen and I came to know that citroen Japon deliver their stock parts in a day, not like before.

so, you might want to order the genuine sensor at your local dealer.
