Thanks Dieselman, I'm sure my hubby will understand it (I only drive cars and put petrol in lol). |
Time to get your marigolds on then...
As before, don't condemn the joint without stripping and greasing it. The noise is because the bearings inside are sliding on the metal without lubrication.
Which turn makes it worse, left or right? Whichever it is is the problem side.

I don't know now because I think these are the part numbers for the later Teves system which is what the VIN brings up.

0271 04 454155 SPEED SENSOR

Thanks Dieselman, I'm sure my husband will understand it (I only drive cars and put petrol in ). The car is making a clonking noise when we go 'round the bend. |
How SURE are you its the driveshaft. My K Prestige manual had the clonking when turning right hand bends last year, initial diagnosis was driveshaft but it turned out it was the upper engine mount. There was a recentish discussion somewhere here about upper engine mount problems which confirmed this as a common sympton of the mount needing replacement.
As for the whole ABS discussion, sounds confusing, maybe they fitted different systems to Prestiges and V6's built at similar times?

Well this is confusing the hell out of me i thought mk2's went to teves and mk1 was bendix??? i have the 4HP 18 box by the way Paul. The later bendix type drive shafts will be compatable with both types of bendix abs though wont they?
Caroline, could you take a photo of the abs sensor fitted to the car and post it here at all????
D |
No Dean
Bendix was on S1 with the first generation of ABS sesnors with a THIN body on them.. 1989 to about 1994...
Then END of S1.5 from 1994 onwards had a revised Bendix ABS sensors with a higher RESISTANCE and a FAT body on the sensors, these went from ABOUT late 1993/4 to 1995/6... then Tevis went from about 1996 or N reg onwards...
So theres a Bendix cross over from S1.5 to S2 cars....
My dates are not EXACT but roughly.. I know this from the cars Ive had in...
My S1.5 Onyx on an M reg, 1994 had Fat body Bendix ABS sensors, and a S2 1995 M reg also had Fat body ABS Bendix Sensors...
Carolines car SHOULD shave the early type thin body ABS sesnors...
This is starting to get complex now...

Hi All
The outstanding answer to Carolines ABS question is BENDIX ABS fitted.
The version of Bendix is not a concern as far as Driveshafts are concerned.
Hi Paul
The two versions of Bendix ABS sensor (you call them thin and fat) are physically interchangable and can be mixed on a car or axle. The only constraint is with the version of Bendix ABS ECU which must not be changed for the later version on the early Mk1 cars. Read the self help if you want the full details of why.
