Hi all,

I'm a Citroën-addict from the Netherlands.
Previous rides include a DS 23 Pallas, a CX 2200 Pallas and a GSA 1300.

Then I got stuck in the company car realm (which initially did include a BX, but the Xantia and I were never on good terms, and the XM was out of my reach).

But... within 2 weeks, I will leave my Avensis on the parking lot for the last time, only to leave in... tadaa... the car I've wanted for the last 18 years: my very own XM. This one is a 2.1 TD from 2000, with 200.000 miles on the clock.

I thought I'd subscribe, introduce myself, and learn. I'll put up a photo in the picture section later.

You've certainly waited a long time for your XM; here's wishing you another happy 18+ years ahead
together!!!:D You have been fortunate with your past choice of Citroen models and it's easy to see
why you're an enthusiast - many here would no doubt love to own a Ds and the GSA is a fabulous
car too!

Welcome to the club. As Andrew says I also am a 2.1 fanatic only I go for manuals and mostly esstates, I suspect yours is an auto. I have been running them for about 13 years and I don't think there is a better car on the market. Enjoy.

Mine is indeed an automatic Berline (see photo in photo's section).

Very nice. I would very much like a manual estate in that colour.

I, on the other hand, am a grandad, so I am entitled to an auto . I, therefore, would very much like a Berline automatic in that colour. With cruise control, climate control, towing gear, and with a 2.1 TD engine.

Gee, am I lucky.

Now all I need are the original alloy rims.

I'm quite an old grandad but I still prefer a manual, I like the fuel consumption and it suits my style of driving. Mind you, if I lived anywhere near Rotterdam, I would probably drive an auto - but I live in the country.

That is a lovely XM. Just out of interest, how much is petrol and diesel in the Netherlands?

Contrary to what it's like in England, diesel is considerably cheaper than petrol. I would say that petrol is priced approximately the same as in the UK (we're currently at € 1.39 per litre or something), and diesel is something like € 0.30 cheaper per litre).

I have just sent out an email to one of the best-reputed Citroën specialists in this country, who, to my amazement, is only 20 miles or so away from where I live! On top of that, they love diesels, and are supposed to be very good at working in them, and I am also told that they are one of the two leading hydraulics specialists of our country.

I hope he can give my 'elderly lady' a checkup in December... I know a thing or two about CX's and GSA's, but this is my first XM.

Sounds like you've struck lucky there Peter - here's hoping his expertise isn't too prohibitive
cost wise and/or your new purchase doesn't require much attention!!

Welcome Peter ! I have to agree with Peter.N, the 2.1td manual is the one to have, I tried an auto and hated it but then again, the auto doesn't really suit the uppy-downy topography of where I live wouldn't mind trying the 2.5td though.

I don't care if it costs a dime or two. If he finds faults that need to be corrected - well, I won't say "money is no object", but it comes pretty close.
I had factored in something like 7k (in pounds) to get a well-sorted XM. Up to now, I've only spent 2.7k, so there's plenty headroom to get stuff sorted. If I'm lucky, I'll stay well within my budget.

@Colin: if you drive in the hills occasionally, you can still use 3, 2 and 1 on the auto box, can't you? You can on mine.

I've driven around in the less-accessible parts of Scotland with a petrol Avensis 4 speed auto (with more horsepower, but not as much torque), and I found that 3, 2 and 1 helped me out just fine.

And indeed, where I live, we don't do uppy-downy. I've never been out of D in our country.

Just had a quick word on the phone with Renard (the Citroën specialist). On Dec. 1, he'll hook up our lady to the Lexia, take a look at her bottom, and drive her around a bit, so see how she's really doing.

And he also has a set of Etoiles (the wobbly web wheels)! which I can then sandblast and get a fresh layer on to make them look brand new.
