That's one nice looking car !! I have a 2.1TD slugomatic here.... Nice car apart from the god awful disgusting gearbox in it.... What is wrong with a proper clutch and gearstick anyway ?? 
It makes the car downright dangerous when trying to pull out from a standstill into traffic. The damn car just won't move.... Then after you have made the people you pulled out infront of do a crash stop to avoid hitting you, the damn car finally gets moving and and tries to crash into the car infront. It does quite well once moving.... With a manual gearbox I reckon it would be a vastly supperior car in everywhere. A 2litre diesel off boost through a slugomatic gearbox simply doesn't work IMO.
Actually I bought the XM for my wife, getting out of my CX turbo into the XM TD feels like going from a Ferrari to a 2cv.

Methinks my auto box works differently than yours.

My 2.1 Turbo diesel does none of those things it races away when i put my foot down with very little lag me thinks there is something wrong with yours possible the turbo is not working.

I think Shane is complaining more about auto box lag than an unresponsive engine.
However, no complaints about that on my end - I find the XM's auto box quite responsive, actually.

The auto works perfectly in it.... And I'm actually quite amazed at how quick it is ..................................................Once rolling. Off the line a pushbike would beat it... You wouldn't even notice the problem with a proper gearbox, as you'd rev the motor slightly as you let out the clutch getting it onto boost. A 2litre automatic diesel off boost at standstill simply doesn't move.
Hmm, finally got around to checking it's fuel economy. All around town, short trips, cold starts.... 28mpg
I guess the V6 would get half that under the same circumstances though.

Hmm, the lady is quick enough -- for me.
Could be because it's relatively healthy, but I suspect most of yours would be as well. A more likely cause is because 0-60 in something between 12 and 13 seconds isn't quick enough for you guys, and I'm just a sedate old git
It's not as quick off the line as my 2 litre auto Avensis VVT-I, or the Octavia manual 110 bhp TDI I drove, but then again the Skoda didn't have all that weight to lug around. But it's not as if it's a huge difference. And from 30 to, er, 70 (really, officâh!), it's plenty quick enough.
On that note, I'll report about the fuel economy once (or maybe I should say: if) I get that tank empty. If my figures are better than yours, we know I'm a sedate old git.

I've just returned from my visit.
The blue oil (or smurf oil as they call it) is indeed the Hyken Glacial Blue. I'll be getting that in my XM on December 19.
Turns out my Silver Lady is in almost perfectly healthy condition. Renard found the front suspension to be a bit on the rough side, and they also discovered that the multi-belt tensioning wheel was out of line, causing excessive wear on the multi-belt (which shows up in the maintenance history).
As of today, the Silver Lady is in great form, and amazingly good considering her mileage. She would pass an MOT with flying colours. On top of that, getting all minor quibbles sorted on the car would cost less than 400 quid (which includes the front suspension hardness and the tensioning wheel).
