Impressive what a damned good valet can do!!
I've seen engine bays coated in this lacquer like finish in the past and I think it's
just to make the engine look pretty for a photo in the same way you can paint
tyre sidewalls blacker!! IIRC it goes on with the car wash rinse degreaser used
with a steam cleaner.
Nice looking car for a s2!

Hmmm, thought I recognised it. I nearly bought this car before being tempted away by a new V6 instead... It was for sale at WHM with about 90k miles back in April 2005 (ish). I've still got several high res pics if anyone's interested?
Actually, I'm fairly sure it was still for sale with WHM earlier this year, some three years on... Maybe it's been passed to another trader?
Back in April 2005 it was up for £2500, although he'd accept £2250 at the time. It was due a cambelt/pulley/etc change but I remember being told it had been a company car but there was no record of service history. However, it drove well and everything then worked too.

Hi Dean
I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. Let's focus on it ---- it's 13 years old, petrol, 4 cylinder, done nearly 100,000 miles and, if it appeared at auction, would probably make an absolute max of £300 and possibly a lot less.
I know price is always controversial, but at the moment I'd think it was plenty even if they knocked the one off the start of the price.
Mike.

I'd buy it if I had the dough..... the only thing that could possibly make it any better, would be the addition of a V6*
*Lets blissfully ignore the mortgage fuel prices la la la la la.

My kind of auction

...........where is it?
Am I the only one here that actually likes it for being an S2 car?
And believe it or not.......I'd prefer it with an auto box.

Hi Minijet
I like it because of the colour, the trim and that it is a Mk2. Does not make it anywhere near good value of course. My last 96 V6 excl had a slightly higher mileage, 120k, had not been valeted, has lasted a bit over 2 years and cost £500. Keep looking and you will come across better value XM's. There are plenty more Mk2's to come.

Top of the range V6 for 500 quid
My kind of car

...............and it lasted about 18 months longer than any of mine. What happened after 2 years?
I'm not sure you'll find a bargain like that at the moment.
I haven't seen a decent cheap one for several months.
I can only assume that there are people paying these inflated prices for XM's

I must admit if it where a mk 1 and it was a minter i would pay 2k for it, a fool? your probably spot on wirdy

but you cant take it with you when you die and you have to spend it on something. I paid £995 for mine 5 years ago and its still going strong now, bargain, and 2k? well you would loose that in the first year if you bought a new mondeo.

Fair comment
I guess most of us here jumped on the XM bandwagon at the lowest price-point a few years ago and naturally use this as the yardstick- hence some scepticism of the price inflation seen recently for some XM's.
Supply vs demand is a powerful force. If it keeps more XM's roadworthy / repairable rather than scrap then that's good for all of us, I'd say

As decent XMs get scarcer the price is going to keep on rising. It really depends why you want one. If you want an executive car for banger price then you're going to start to be disappointed. If you want a car that is more than a bit different, that is almost a "proper" Citroen and endears itself to you in a way that not many modern cars do and you are prepared to cherish then these inflated (?) prices start to look pretty reasonable.
I paid £1300 for mine and it was a good car. It's even better now after I've cured almost every minor niggle.
