Am considering fixing my XM with a green puddle underneath. Not sure yet if it is high pressure, low pressure or rubber. Assume some return leak. Done all sorts of jobs before but never thought I'd need to replace or re-make pipes.
Pleiades used to sell tools and pipes once, are they still up to it or where could one get tools or materials, alternatively even borrow some?

The odd flaring tool appears on Ebay from time to time. Bought mine there for about £55 including something like 5 metres of pipe and a bag of fixings.

I think you'd know if it was a high pressure leak somehow! 
The main likelihood would be wear/abrasion on pipes at the sharp end and the
distinct chance of rotting pipes in sympathy with the rear subframe. I've been
quite shocked at just how horrible some I have seen recently have been.
It can't hurt to buy in a roll of pipe, ends and a 3.5mm flaring tool. IIRC they
used to be about £50 at Pleiades and I'm not even sure if GSF sell something
to flare pipe as they sell the other items required. As already mentioned, ebay
is a good place to lurk for these things, it IS a godsend having them handy.

I recently bought one of the tools from Pleiades and they are brilliant. I managed to repair two fractured pipes halfway down the car in a fraction of the time it would have taken me to replace them. The tool was £55.00 + vat and for another £3.80 they supplied all the bits I needed to join the pipes.
If you have a high pressure pipe failure, it will usually be accompanied by clouds of vapour and an almost instantaneous loss of hydraulic pressure.
