believe I may need another brake valve even if it is used only as a "known good" for purposes of investigating light coming on each time I brake problem.

I know it's rare for the cables to be alll in one piece, but are you sure it's not the brake pad wear indicator?

Yes but no cables are connected. If I rev light goes out, pads are all new.
