Has anyone ever managed to remove the pulley from the hydraulic pump?.
Ive taken out the 2.0 engine in mine and i'm going to put in a 1600cc xu5c engine that ive rebuilt.(we pay less road tax for smaller engined cars).
The thing is the engine mounting and alternator/hydraulic pump support bracket is not the same on these engines and i'd like to run everything including the aircond off one grooved belt.
We managed to get the pulley off a power steering pump with allot of effort but the citroen hydraulic pump pulley just wont buge.

When they are supplied reconditioned/exchange, they come complete with the pulley. Does that suggest anything?

Hi xmauritius,
When my 2.1 td was in for the last mot i asked the mechanic (the garage is an indy citroen dealer) if he could replace the missing bolt from the pump pulley .
It turns out that the pulley is pressed on at manufacture ,what they call an interferance fit .
The same way that starter rings were fitted on fly wheels nearly only they are a shrink fit seem to remember you had to put the flywheel in the freezer and the new starter ring in the oven,and heypresto they just fall on.
When was the last time you heard of anyone replaceing a starter ring?
It just dosent need doing anymore due to design improvements in starter motors.
Any way maybe the solution is to heat the pulley very quickly in the hope it will expand before the pump shaft follows suit .
there is of course a certain risk of damage to the pump if it gets too hot!

Hi Bob, yep we tried that too even though i was a bit worried about damaging something in the pump. It still wouldn't come off. My friend removed 50% of the material around the centre shaft on the milling machine and it still wouldn't budge.
Eventually i took the grinder to it and cut the pully off completely and was left with a lump of metal on the end of the shaft. I then thought ok all i have to do now is remove the complete shaft from the pump put it into the lathe and turn it down to size to take the new pulley.
Even that didn't work because i pretty much wrecked the pump housing and o ring taking it off.
Well at least i can see how the pump works now!.

That pulley was not meant to come off of the shaft i think.
I wonder if that was Citroens way of ensuring that you have to buy new spare parts ?

The manual pages says "10000N " force is neccessary to remove the pulley
