Full Version Two Years Late But Hello

Club XM Forum > Introductions

Ive only been here two years so I thought its about time to say hello

Been driving Cits for about 8 years now. Started witha BX estate derv, needed a replacement for a PUG 205 Derv and the BX was the cheapest most fuel efficient in the paper that night.

Moved form that to a XM petrol estate (S1). Had it a day before some kind lady rear ended it. Still I got the Ins money and drove it for two years.

Since then Ive had a 2.1 td (still got and will be returning to the road...erm...at sometime)
2.5td Estate - should never have sold
2.5td Excl - should never had bought but with a couple of hundred quid would have its foibles sorted (current driver)
2.0 SI hatch FOC and sold

I hate to say it but Im quite attached to them. The 2.1 has done 250 K, is a salvage after also being rear ended but I cant seem to part with it.

The 2.5 hatch - well its coming up to 200K and just requires a bit of TLC.

What else can you get for the money? nowt, Saab, Audi etc. On a par ish but way too high.

If it wasnt for the ex wife bleeding me dry I would buy the same late plate 2.1 estate the Peter N is after. I reckon that Ive covered equivilent of 10times round the world in XMs and if they both died tommorrow I would be pleased with the service they have given me.

Hi Mark,

Welcoming you to Club-XM would seem to be a bit of a waste of time since your part of the furniture anyway.

I see your old estate is back up for sale from Steve Fenton. Time to recover your loss I think.

I agree about what else is on offer. If you were seriously to change your car tomorrow, just what would you go for? There's hardly a barrel load of choice out there. (Having said that I'm sure I made the same comment when I stopped running CX's as my daily car mellow.gif )

Welcome anyway.

Cheers

Hi all
I will probably be thrown off for this suggestion...but what about the C5?!!!!! wacko.gif The prices of the earlier ones, diesel estates with fairly high mileage are around the £3.5-4K mark now biggrin.gif .I have mainly always driven German cars apart from 4X2CV's tongue.gif !They are well styled and reliable! However they are expensive to buy and run! sad.gif I love the XM's quirky looks and styling, attractive it isn't though and unfortunately I rely on my car for my living,I need it to start everytime and know I am going to get there and back ph34r.gif .I didn't think I could afford even an Ebay TD Estate-I was very surprised at what they can go for....I understand more now why! blink.gif
It is not even a design classic in the same way as the 2CV or of its type it is just a later development of the Traction Avant, the DS and the CX.That is why I am surprised that no one is considering the C5 yet.I am put off by the running costs which I should imagine will be particularly high.
If it wasn't for you lads(& lasses),coupled with the relatively low numbers imported, the XM would have virtually dissappeared off the UK motoring map even quicker than it is already doing.
I am moving to France to live this year and my choice of transport is going to be a 2 CV ripple bonnet van!Or possibly a Volvo Amazon Estate! wacko.gif
Mind you,you get(note I said you,not me)a good feeling when you sort a problem out and keep your car going again!
A bientot

Hi Noz

Yep Steve offered me first refusal, but alas the money cupboard is bare.

Its a damn fine car, had a replacement engine / recon by the the previous owner to me. I replaced a few bits and bobs and Steve has done the same.

Worth buying.

Not sure what I will be getting next, but covering 30k miles a year means the present XMs will have to be replaced at some point.

Then again, Im hoping to coax at least 300K out of each of them
