Well at last I've bitten the bullet and joined your active forum.
Having owned Citroens for the last 20 years, BX16TRS 85-04, BX17TD 95-97, & XM 2.1TD Estate 97-Present. And having grown up with them 2 x Light Fifteens, & a CX Safari of my fathers. On the whole they have been very reliable the early ones suffering from tin worm. The XM was bought as a non ABS model as a part exchange for the BX17. Having a look underneath the car it was noticed that there were ABS sensors on the Discs. further hunting found that the ABS had been unplugged beside the Airbox, when connected the telltale light came on the dash. An appointment to the local Citroen workshop was made to diagnose the fault easily. The Technician came back with a reply "Yes there is a fault with the ABS but can you leave the car with us for a few days whilst we try and find out what it is?", Very scientific I thought and wondering at the cost of this exercise as the pluging in to the diagnostics had cost £90.00 for 1/2 an hours work with no result or parts. Imanaged to scrounge a ABS wiring diagram from them and went about finding my own solution. The fault was a sticking relay on the Hydraulic brake block. A couple of taps with a soft hammer was all it needed to reinstate the ABS to fully operational, (8years todate). The car has not been back to a main dealer since, all work carried out my a local spanner and myself
