When we got the XM a few months ago I knew there was a slight leakage of fluid from the LHS front strut area. Made the assumption (always a bad idea) that the strut itself was compromised. And unlike a D cylinder, not an easy thing to reseal. So got a replacement unit from Europe - at the same time got a set of the overflow tubes.
When I finally got around to actually taking a closer look I found out that the overflow tube had actually broken in half. As the break occurred right behind the metal support tab - not visible until I actually pulled on it

. So went in to replace and realized that it takes a special tool to clamp the OEM unit to the strut body. Gave it a bit of thought and wound up replacing the supplied metal clamping band with two raps of Ligerex material. Same width and worked a charm.
