Full Version Pump retrofit

Club XM Forum > Hydraulics Issues

I have a '95 2.1TD with the earlier 5 piston pump and FDV.
These items are becomming expensive.
Has anyone retro fitted the later 6-2 pump?

I reckon I need:
pump;
bracket:
4.5 mm pipe to steering
4.5 mm pump tp PRV

and that's it
Would someone please point out the flaws in my argument!

Unless the later pump comes from an XM the pulley will be wrong as yours is a 'V' belt most of the others are ribbed. Can you not get a secondhand one, I think there are some being broken on ebay.

I have never seen a 6+2 pump with a V belt pulley.
The only ones listed by Citroen are for 6 rib belts.
They come with small pulley for diesels and a large pulley for petrols.
Pulley does not swap without taking the pump to bits.

Theres lots missing from your list.

After fitting that lot you then be waiting for about 10 mins for the car to pump up as you will only have TWO pump pistons pumping the car up instead of all 6.. for that you eould need to add anti sink valves plus a rear brake reserve valve (also know as rear anti sink sphere though its not actually one of these) meaning a completely different pipework layout.

Then you need to swap the engine bracket that the altinator is mounted on and the crank pully fit a different type of altinator to the changed bracket as well as the pump.

Your best sourcing a spare pump and flow divider from the uk assuming you have rhd and no divari steering setup.
