Full Version failed hydraulic pipe

Hi, all.

this is the failed hydraulic pipe I have just removed. it has been located between the circuit braker and peripheral suspension and brake system.

actually, it's the 3rd replacement, and the leaking point is always the junction between the rubber and metal portion.

and I found a strange condition with this old pipe.

like this (part number is 5270 GS)

the metal part (only thin one, not thick one)can rotate coaxially independently of the rubber hose and thick metal pipe. the other side thin metal pipe (has not leaked ) moves as well.

is this movement normal ? meaning that you can rotate like this to fit the pipe to the car or is it abnormal and is related to this time's leaking failure ?

sorry for trivial question,

Hi Shin,

I have a similar hose (power steering supply) on my 2.1TD and it has a very slow leak from the area where the steel collar is crimped on to the rubber flexible hose.
The joint relies on the steel collar being mechanically deformed during manufacture in order to firmly compress the rubber onto a barbed metal spigot. Rotation of this joint is abnormal.
The failure of your three hoses suggests that they have not been manufactured properly in the first place.
I wonder if a hydraulic hose specialist could attempt to re-crimp the metal collar or alternatively make up a new assembly using the old metal tube parts.

Hi, ken

thank you for response.

That makes sense to me.

some specialist here advertises that he does re-crimp this type hydraulic pipe of citroens for 10000 yen.

It would need a touchy order about the angle which is important in fitting on vehicle, but very interesting.
