I am planning to take my XM to the land of its birth next week and have bought a set of Eurolite adaptors from Halfords. I have just been trying to follow the instructions so that I will know what I am doing on the dockside at Dieppe and I can't work out where they should go - the outer glass cover in front of the plastic dipped-beam unit seems to lack the line pattern that the instructions suggest should be there. Anyone had any experience of doing this ?

Hi Richard
RHD XM headlights do not have the diverter pattern on the outer glass.
The pattern is on the internal plastic lenses fitted in front of the dip bulb reflector.
LHD Mk 1 XM's had the same lenses but for LHD Mk 2 XM's Citroen did away with them and cast the pattern in the outer lamp glass.
There should be a full size mask guide with you converter kit.
Fitting is actually easiest done in a darkened area with the lights on.
In actual practice swapping those internal lenses between the two headlights is all that is needed to convert the dip hand but of course that is not an in transit option.

I found the necessary templates here -

Hi all
This is my first post on the forum but i am sure that it will not be the last, here in France where i am now living i have owned a mk i 2.1 D12 for 7 years I have just replaced it with a MK1 V6, RHD so need to change the headlights for the new control technique (MOT) it would appear that there is 2 possibilitys take the headlights from my old car or as the headlights on the new car are perfect(the car has only done 52,000 miles) i could just change the internal reflectors, any advice would be appreciated

Hi vive
There is a small difference between Mk1 and Mk2 XM headlamp outer shells.
This is the position of the lug that the nose cone (upper grill) fixes to.
The nose cone is similarly changed to suit.
This means that mixing Mk1 & Mk2 headlamps and nosecones do not fit correctly.
In the best case spacers are needed but in the other the nosecone projects forward out of position. The very worst case is where one headlight is Mk1 and the other Mk2.
None of this is insuperable but if you are looking to produce a quality finish to the car do not mix these bits stick to the correct type.

^^ Just open the lamp units and flip the lens round.
