Full Version Apologies for Club-Xm downtime

Well, you just can't win can you?

Having concentrated on getting the forum software up to date and working properly and also taking the opportunity to do a little housekeeping I took my eye of the ball. The recent activity in terms of visitors and bandwith used up by uploads and downloads took us over our disk allocation and close to our monthly bandwith limit.

I've deleted a couple of old forum formats we played about with in early 2009 when the forum went down and also deleted old logs going back to 2004. That solved the disk space problem.

The bandwidth limit is not a problem. This month's was eaten up by all the backups and uploading and downloading new forum software. Clearly that won't happen every month.

Anyway, we are back, safe and sound.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

That post was actually from August. I did receive warnings about bandwith a couple of times leading up to the end of October. Since we were only a few days away I decided to leave it. Of course, sods law, we overstepped the monthly bandwith allocation with less than one day to go and the ISP brings the curtains down. You just cannot win. sad.gif

I suppose its just a victim of its own success. The more popular club-xm becomes the higher the bandwith allocation required.

I was hoping the recent surge was just me uploading the new forum but the visitor stats are all up so we've got a load more traffic than we used to have. I'll keep a closer eye on it in future.

Hi Noz.

So glad to see you up and running again, I was going to call you but was having trouble with my PC and thought it might be just me.

Bob.

Hi Bob,

You are not alone. BT have been screwing up broadband all over the country since Friday. Ours was out all evening Friday through to Saturday and again this morning for a couple of hours. South Queensferry only came back on on Tuesday. Who knows what they're up to. Maybe its Stuxnet.

cheers

Hi All,

I've just had an email telling me we have used up 80% of our monthly bandwith allocation(1.6GB/2.0GB). I'll post some site stats once I authorise attachments in the "About the Site" section. Club-XM is certainly more popular and growing weekly since it was fixed but I can't make up my mind whether the increase in bandwith is traffic related or skin related.

I might have to swap back to the old skin for a month to see if that makes any difference in bandwith. If the size of each of the components that make up the page is larger with the new skin then every time a page is viewed it uses up more bandwith to display it.

If it turns out to be just traffic related then I think I'll have to investigate the cost/feasibility of upping our monthly bandwith allowance.

In the meantime, if the site disappears around the 29/30 of the month then you'll know why. As soon as its 08.00am in California on the 01 December it should come back on again.

If you can avoid it, please refrain from downloading or uploading attachments until the beginning of December. Thanks.

Cheers

I don't believe it. (courtesy of Victor Meldrew). Our ISP has sent an automated mail to say that we have used up to 80% of our bandwith allowance already and its only the 20th of the month. I need to investigate whether this is due to real, genuine traffic or we have a leak somewhere.

If Club-XM goes down in 2-3 days you will know why.

I need to find a permanent fix for this. It might be by paying for more bandwith. We'll see.

cheers
