Hi all
Forgot to ask the other day, when i was taking the ignition switch off the MK2 there was a working ignition light mounted in the lower steering column shroud but the hole was blanked so no light could get out, it looks very much like it was done from new.
My question is, why would the working bulb be mounted in there and yet have the hole blanked off, do you have to pay extra to have the lense put in place of the blanking cap?????
Do all you MK2 owners have the ignition illumination light?

Hi Dean
It is not a blanking cap. It is actually a lens/cover to focus and restrict the light to the ignition switch area.

Hi Dean
Might well only work when the car lights are turned on.

It is mostly balck plastic, but there is a hole or lense in the side so that the light is directed sideways towards the ignition barrel (almost 90 degrees from the direction of the bulb) as opposed to straight down at your leg. Could yours be rotated so that the light is being directed towards the plastic of the steering shroud and hence going nowhere? On mine it just lights up the key slot on the barrel.

This is something that I really appreciated on my CX and I am missing on my XM.
But my XM is a -93, that is Mk 1. It´s a V6 with all extra, but anyway there is no light illuminating the ignition switch. Does my car not have this, or can I have the chance that it´s just the bulb that is broken on mine? (Have to have a closer look...)

The light comes on when you open a door. But its performance is dismal. I never understood the use of it. You can't rotate it either; it fits in only one position. There is no lens, just a tiny slot in the sleeve.

Mine works and I think it's helpful-especially in pitch dark!

Unfortunally, its a Series One Ommision, and was not fitted...
Something Ive not missed either, I get in my car EVERY day and use the key, so Im not likely to forget were the ignition barrel is or which way round the key goes in

Ok, thanks!
Now the XM has a much more efficient interior light than the CX, so this ignition light isn't needed really - but it's a nice gadget!
