Is there such a thing as a reliable specification list for the entire XM range, one showing standard equipment plus optional extras? I'm curious as to whether the VSX had airconditioning as standard.

Many Thanks,

Jim.

Hi Jim, to my knowledge the VSX did not have air con as standard. It was available with optional manual air con or digi climate. Althought he manual did have an auto select on the fan too.

Exclusive models did get air con.

I think cruise was an option on most models too, VSX cars didnt get that as standard.

I do have a range of Xm brochures around, ones ive picked up over the years from citroen events and car shows etc.

Hi Jim

I don't think they had as standard, but my impression is the later the car (and the fewer they were shifting), the more likely they were to have it.

Hi Jim

There is a series of published documents issued as an annex to the sales brochure for each model year. The brochure content varied from model year to model year and by country as they felt it necessary to sell cars. The answer to your specific question is that Airconditioning was a VSX option and only a standard feature on Exclusives. You could order a car specify A/C pay extra and wait for it to be made and delivered. That said in the first (95 model year) a good few VSX's were delivered to dealers with A/C fitted as showroom cars. In the 96 and 97 model years they ramped down the proportion of A/C VSX's made underestimating UK demand so that dealers started to retrofit some new cars (particularly 2.5TD's) with a manual form of A/C. (Best to avoid these cars IMHO). Then for the final few years of XM production a greater proportion of VSX's were made with A/C presumably extras for the basic price to make the now ageing XM design easier to sell as a new car.
In my experience a good few XM sellers (both trade and private) cannot give you answers about model type let alone A/C. I find internal dash photos the most accurate guide.

My first SD,XM, S1 '93 had aircon but non of my VSXs have. None of the 2.1s had fuel computers until after Jan 96 as they had mechanical fuel injection.

SD had Air Con as an Option as also Alloys as an option.. Air Con was standard on SE models...

Peter, did it have roatry controls, or was it digi??

If I remember correctly it had rotary controls with an extra button for the aircon - or was that the CX? - I have just asked my son who says it used the ordinary panel with rotary controls but he seems to remember an extra setting on the temperature control for the aircon.

Yea thought it would be Peter, the black onyx I have has got roatry controls but has air con...

This shows that its an option fitted, NOT a factory option, because Im sure the Standard system had climate control, and hence the electronic control panel..

This is shown by the end of line specials, is it the Prestege? that has Air Con and Manual Leather seats, and they have an electronic heater panel..

Hi Paul

Manual aircon was a factory item on very early XM's. My first XM, G reg 2.0 SEi car had that system fitted. I remember because I had to buy a new set of the 3 control knobs to get the heating/aircon to work because of split shaft fittings. Climate was V6 only to start with and was separately identifed by Citroen to give Mk1's the fourth trim level.
