Morning all
I dont suppose that its escaped your notice that there is a '96 2.1 auto
for sale in Axminster - on my doorstep. Doesn't have keys or presumably a keypad code. I have asked him if I can have a look to see if its even worth bothering with, but as its white and I have a white estate, could be useful.
Any suggestions as to how I can overcome this dilemma? I could almost push it home from there - but I need to be able to steer it.
Dreaded EPIC pump. I'm now asking myself why I would possibly want it.

Hi Peter
Not seen this one yet but if there are no keys at all provided you can get into the car then it is fairly easy to disengage the steering lock without permanent damage other than the ignition switch. If you then need to turn the ignition on remove the lower dash panelling undo the three ignition switch plugs and plug in a spare switch. For temporary vehicle movement no need to fit it just loop it over the steering column out of the way but available for use. At this stage there is a chance you may well find that the car is set to garage mode or the keypad is immobilised or isolated. If so the car should start with no trouble. Only if there is a hidden immobiliser code do problems start. First thing then is to look page by page through all the cars handbooks and documentation. You would be surprised how many people write the code down just incase it gets forgotten. If this does not do the trick then you need to find an EPIC ECU with a known code to put on the car to run it or convert it to Bosch pump and ECU.
Hidden code and no keys means they should pay you to take the car away because reading the ECU for code is a £100 plus job and a new ignition and lock set another £150 for the parts. Tell them the bad news and offer to clear it for free.

Hi Peter
If you do go for it and the immobiliser code is a problem then I could loan you my spare EPIC ECU (with code) to get it home.

Hi John and Ken
Another ignition switch - brilliant idea, never thought of that! The ECU problem not so easily solved but thanks for your offer Ken.
He has no paper work with it, it apparantly belonged to his mates grandmother who died. As it is I can't see it being worth anything except for scrap, but I will reserve judgment until I have seen it.

Hi Peter
Adv says that there is MOT and also over 6 months tax on the car. Might just make it worth close to the £200 they are looking for. It also can be read to imply that it is drivable in its present state. Will be interested in what you find Peter when you go and look. Jusy in case it is needed I will add a spare ignition switch with key to the odds and ends that I bring down when I collect my 2.5TD later in the week.

Hi Peter, I've still got my EPIC ecu with the immobiliser code deactivated should you need one.

Thanks John, Colin
I sent the chap an e mail yesterday in response to his request for my location .... and have not heard from him since. Wonder if I'm to close for comfort. He says its advertised in the local paper, but there are several papers and its not in the one we have, will try and get a look at the others.

I eventually got a reply from him today - after sending another email, apparantly the car is at present in Bude! He says he is hoping to have it up here today or tommorrow- how? I'm sure transporting it would cost more than its worth. Anyway, someone has bid £200 on it so its out of the running for me, I hope they know what there doing.

Hi Jim
Pity its only just down the road to me. I rather think the chap that was trying to sell it was living in cloud cuckoo land, I expect it will end up at the scrappies.
Peter.
