Hi all the Hydraulic experts. biggrin.gif
Is there anywhere on the site I can find a schematic drawing of the whole hydraulic system on a 1996 XM?
I read posts discussing certain valves on the system and often wonder where they are placed mainly so I can get an idea of how it all works.(Or should work!) unsure.gif
Regards. Bob.

Hi! It might be worth your while starting with having a look here:

Hi Bob,
Another closer to home, click on "The Club XM website" top left of this page select "files" on LH menu. Plenty on suspension in there and much else besides.

If you want to start getting to grips with the hydraulics, a good place to start is here, i downloaded it, printed off and used it as a bit of bed time education, its very good.

Thanks to all replies, especially from. Jan, Robert and Dean. I'll get lost in these files for a while and hopefully learn a lot from them tongue.gif

Hi Bob, here are a couple of schematics, first the suspension - note it is for vehicles fitted with an FDV (flow distribution valve) and without anti sink.I have some line drawings for the these other installations but the coloured ones make understanding easier.

And secondly, brakes & steering

Hi robertmnorton,
These two attachments are really good too, thanks.
I've received my 5Ltrs of hydraflush and hope that helps a lot by cleaning the system through although Martin at Pleiades doesn't think it will? ohmy.gif but I 've got to do something to get the real feeling back into my XM. wink.gif
Thanks again to all who have helped on this post and to any who might add to it in the future. biggrin.gif
Regards. Bob.

Hi Bob,i understand PLEIADES's reservations, hydraflush is primarily a maintenance use product, akin to engine oil changes and( i believe essential) and not a panacea for worn, damaged or sticking components.Yes it may help move deposits from seal lips and valve seats resulting in improved suspension/steering/braking performance - but as commonly mentioned on this forum - to another location, not necessarily to the return filter.Hydraulic system flushing does require specialist and costly equipment, the basic premise being high velocity fluid flow through each system component in it's static and dynamic state at elevated temperatures with specially formulated fluids.I don't believe even citroen have such a machine, as component replacement was always a better commercial reason. The best chance we home mechs have is regular service drain and refill intervals based on your own use and experience.I have found the hydraflush supplied by pleiades a better cleaning agent than the total hydraurincage but others may have found the opposite. The 5/10000 mile interval i have used over the past 3/4 years yields completely clean drained fluid and with pleiades o/hauled brake control valves and P/R's on both cars and FDV on the 95, i will revert to an annual change now.
