Full Version Hi I Must Be A Sadist On My Third V6

Hi All

I'm on my third XM V6.

The first was a "learning experience" '93 Mk 1 V6 SEi dog. Dodgy electrics and an even dodgier auto box change.

The next was a '95 Mk 2 exclusive, silver, usual toys, but with alcatra seats. Got it for a song. Just been serviced and had a full citroen exhust system fitted, that listed for about what I paid for the whole car. One previous owner. Had it for 2 years with no hassles at all.

Had to swap it when my current car became available. Lovely 2000 W-reg 24V exclusive. Black, black leather. 73K miles. Everything works except with a few niggles. Had it for a year. Flying machine.

Cheers

Tony

Hi Tony,

I have its older twin; '99 model, same colour, same spec, same mileage. I was told that mine was the penultimate V6 to be imported so yours must be the ultimate!

I've had mine for 28 months now. Unfortunately I've had problems - new rear suspension unit, new centre exhaust section (420 quid, ouch!) and now a broken window winder cable, but when it's going properly it's a dream.

It's also great fun burning off young bloods who think an old boy in an XM is easy meat. Childish I know. One of the things I like about it is that it bears no distinguishing marks to betray its potency, no "V6", "3.0i", "twin cam" or any of that nonsense. I think they used to call them Q-ships.

Cheers,

Derek

Hi

Yep it might be the last one. I've heard that they only every imported 16.

Press the sport mode and hear the V6 grunt. biggrin.gif They certainly are Q cars. The bunch of lads in the Saxo VTS last week were very surprised.

Running the V6s is about taking the rough with the smooth. For what you pay you get a serious amount of car, with slightly above normal running costs, but not massively. Although having had Audi company cars - £352 for a oil change with a new windscreen wiper.

I did have the cambelt changed this year (plus the plugs and other bits that should be done with the cambelt), plus the air con cendensor and a rear window winder this week. Still worth it. Even if I hardly can prize it off the Mrs.

I am considering having the exhust replaced in stainless steel. Good bet if I keep the car longterm.

Cheers

rolleyes.gif I also have a 1999 V6 24v XM Exclusive, which I have owned for 4 years. The exhaust is currently a problem, but a little plate welding fixed a leaky pipe, which should hold while I save up for a stainless exhaust. I have 2 winder winder cables break and bought replacements on eBay. One is installed and working and the front is waiting for me. The main problem there is the foam stuck to the doors to keep water out and which also helps to deaden road noise. You have to shred it to open up the door to fit the new motor & cable: now I must visit a local bodyshop to get some plastic sheet stuck on its' place - I refuse to pay Citroen £148 for 8 metres of plastic. There is also a problem with air being sucked into the suspension, but that is probably a faulty supply pipe from the reservoir to the pump and I ahve a replacement to fit.
Otherwise, what else could I possibly drive around in? This is my 3rd XM, after an ID 19 Safari, a DS21 & a 23, then 5 CXs - as you might gather, I cannot be bothered with these funny cars that make do with a beefed up bed spring on each corner.

we're on our 2nd now.

The first that we still have is our V6 24v Series one, and the second one that i collected off CitroenXM on thursday is a black V6 12v Manual.
