Hi Gareth and welcome to club-xm!

Pretty much every ailment known to Xm's has been covered (in some cases several times over)
on this forum. If you have a look through the separate areas of discussion or use the top right
search option all be explained.

For what it's worth PeterN is the forums' most addicted 2.1 owner and he will likely be along
shortly with his years of experience/wisdom on them.

One aspect to be very aware of if the maintenance and operation of the autobox as these can/will
fail losing drive/lock up dependent on the particular specific fault. Look for work/servicing on the
prospective purchase and check the state of the fluid and how it operates/changes right through
the speed range.

Other issues are the tensioner system on the auxiliary belt.

Hi Gareth, welcome to club-xm!

Good luck with your new purchase, you could try having a search around the forum for most know problems on Xms.

Im not sure how much Citroen knowledge you have, so sorry if this is a bit basic:

You have an Auto, so its essential that the gearbox oil is changed often to maintain the box and make it last. Strut tops are a thing which can go, so check around the top of the struts under the bonnet and when the car is in high check for corrosion around where the strut meets the car under the wheel arch.

A common cause of the struts failing and coming away (something you really dont want) is under pressured spheres, so thats another thing to check. Look through the history to see if there is any record of spheres being replaced or regassed. They should be regassed every 3 years or 30K which ever is first. If a sphere becomes too low on pressure you can not regas it, so new ones are needed. It should give a very smooth ride if the spheres are ok.

If the car clicks constantly when the engine is running it will most likely be the acc sphere which is low on gas. Something else to check is the hydraulic pipework, it can start to leak so make sure you give that a good inspection so it stays a reliable car.

If its a well fettled car, you will be very impressed with the Xm smile.gif

Im sure someone else will be along to add a few more, or correct any of my mistakes!

Hi Gareth

Try the engine bay fuse box, fuse F2. You will find this fuse box bolted to the front of the battery tray. Can be the fuse box contacts burnt out not just the fuse. Plenty of postings on non working climate so have a search.

Hi Gareth

Welcome to the club. 2.1 yes, best thing since sliced bread, auto box ...not my scene, but listen to the advice from those that dare. Engines tend to suffer head gasket failure at around 150k, unless, I am reliably informed, you keep lots of good antifreeze in them, but otherwise - bombproof, providing they are properly maintained of course. You can expect 300k from a well maintained 2.1 engine and manual unsure.gif box.

Enjoy your car
