A certain car we all love rolled off the production line 20 years ago.

"The XM was put on sale on 23 May 1989 and was built at the Rennes factory in Brittany. Initially, it was available in three versions, two 2 litre, fuel injection versions and one V6 3 litre. In 1990, a new, simplified model was introduced with a carburettor version of the 2 litre and two diesels, a normally aspirated and a turbocharged version. Three trim variants were offered - Séduction, Harmonie and Ambiance."

If you've not got the book all the pre-production pictures can be seen at: http://www.citroenet.org.uk/passenger-cars...m/xm-index.html.

How about we get in touch with the CCC and get together for a big day. The national rally near Huntingdon is one idea or the Midland rally at Stratford is another good one.

We might have a good chance of getting an example of each model. I seem to remember there was only one example of a Mk1 XM at the national rally I attended in 2007.

Cheers
Steve

Nice idea, but who still has a legal running Carby 2.0?

I could provide the base 2.0i or a s1 24v although Peterborough is at the far end
of the world past the back of beyond for me being about 250 miles one way!!

I've been past the Rennes factory and took piccies of my DTR Safari CX at the gate.
The factory originally punched out 1000's of GS's so a poignant visit for me!!

I TOO can also provide a Series 1 24v Manual tongue.gif cool.gif laugh.gif

Also a Series 1.5 V6, but not in best of external condition, but everything works... well, will do when shes back on the road Feb 1st!

I could also at a push provide a Series 1 H reg EARLY Diesel 2.1 SED!

Its GONNA HAVE to be in a rather central location... however, there seems to be pleanty along the south and Essex areas, and lots up in Scotland!! Two of the most oppostie lenths of the land!!

Ill watch this space and see what becomes!

I have the Xm book biggrin.gif

I can provide a S2 2.0 auto! wink.gif

It sounds like a great idea, its about time we had an Xm focused event!

I was at Startford last year so i will no doubt be going again this year anyway. It was the Visa birthday last year so we took the van, we could bring both the van and Xm this year. Huntingdon is quite a way, but ive done it before so either place for me is great.

I will be there smile.gif

Chaps,

What about combining it with the CCC CX Rally, creating a CXM rally

It is a nice event in its self, and in a nice location, Littlehorwood Buckinghamshire.

I can only forsee one problem, with many of us having CXs it may be a hard choice to leave a CX or XM at home.

But I can provide a G plate (manufactured '89, registered in '90 for our international readers) 2.0Si, same colour as most of the early pucblicity shots.

We could try and have 20XMs attend to mark the 20th anniversary.

Would be nice if it was an XM ONLY more focused meeting; don't want folk in Cx's and even
Sm's or Visa's there!! smile.gif wink.gif

Actually, I really ought to make the effort to get my G plated Platinum V6 MANUAL SEi on it's
feet for such an occasion!! Out of interest, who has the earliest s1 here then? It was
registered on 09 11 1989 and the RP is 4720 and it's showing 96k miles.

Mine was manufactured 7 December 1989 RP4777, registered March 1990

IIRC, The 23 May 1989 date saw the release of Xm's in France. The UK saw the car at the
October NEC MotorShow in Brum - I remember it well, probably more for the Activa 1 prototype
show car!! There may have been a few Xm's there but I didn't have time for them being a
committed CX driver (lhd at that!! tongue.gif)

Hi all

Not sure the CCC would approve of my xm unsure.gif even with my argument that the xm was originally penciled with six headlamps biggrin.gif .
A club xm meet sounds more attractive to me but i think that idea fell flat on its face last time too sad.gif

Let's do it.

I don't care where it's held, I'll get there.

Having seen some of the snooty members of the CCC I think a club XM rally would be best, it's time I met a few more of you.

I want to see how some of the members with more than one car manage to bring them!

I realise that two major problems accur when organising a club meet, where to hold it and who's going to find and book a location. I also realise I may be out of the way, but if all else fails I can provide parking for probably a dozen cars, more if we use the grass. Extra space available on the bank road alongside. I can provide oxy-acetylene, turning and milling facilities for anyone who wants to use them. I'm sure my wife would come up trumps for refreshments.

We probably won't want to hire a field so the other alternative would presumably be a pub car park.

Anyone more central who can provide a venue?

We need a co-ordinator!

Let's do it!

nice country pub carpark sounds good, and cheap so no one has to stump up for a venue which has to be a bonus.

One other thing, i would be seriously up for a club xm meet but bearing in mind i have a cost of £50 just for the ferry if this comes together, could it be at reasonable notice? say at least a month?..................there's always one isnt there laugh.gif

rolleyes.gif About time to celebrate the XM in a special group meeting. Only reason to mix with CX is to show off a better car with a stronger design. I love a CX but prefer XM.
Wherever the party is distance is not the limit. I am driving down from Scotland to Hampshire next week. Hope to see at least 20 XMs on the day. Whoever is coordinating I don't mind to give a helping hand when needed. biggrin.gif

Id have thought a CCC club joint meet would have been ideal! Everyone ive ever met in the CCC has been very nice, genuine people, im sure they would be happy at the extra people visiting the event. The national would be a very good idea, im surprised that more club-xm members are not CCC members too.

If not, i propose we all gather at Andrews and spend the day tinkering with his Citroen collection wink.gif laugh.gif
