Hi Guys, is it one of us who has expressed an interest in a 24v on Ebay on the Cote D'Azure? Ebay 110322122096
Whoever it is has asked a question of the seller and I think he's got confused/lost in translation with his answer.
The problem with the car is (I think) the CVJ (joint de culasse). Apparently a knackered boot is only an advisory on a French " Certificate Technique" ( MOT) and the ticket is valid for 2 years. This probably means that cars are running the joints in road grit until they fail.
How bad the failure is remains to be seen, but it's obviously enough to take it off the road 2 years ago.
Incidentally, a rather nice one of these was sold a few days ago, all up and running, for €805. (and a lot nearer in Brittany) and there's another needing a little work after being stolen at €450 near the Swiss border.
There seem to be a lot of XM's coming up for sale in Alpes Maritimes. Could it be that when a well-heeled Frog retired to his villa he bought a new XM to see him out and that they are now popping their clogs? Prices in France much stronger than here, though.

Many thanks, Carlos...was getting my rotule mixed up with my culasse !! Even needing head gaskets the car must still be worth €150.

....but who is the mystery British XMer ?

minijet

Didn't WHM buy a similar car with a knackered gearbox recently

Anyone throw any more light on Minijet's suggestion?

I would have thought that they wouldn't be able to justify the cost of retrieving a car at such a distance given that they're in it for the money. I reckon about £500 for the round trip with a trailer to this one, without any labour cost. Didn't know that they were into Series I 24v's either, do they have more buried out the back in the weeds?

Maybe there's an secret underground 24v influx being kept from us !!

Curiouser and curiouser.......

Hmmm I assume you mean WHM?? and a Series 1 24v.? They very well are interested...

I called them last year wanting a gearbox for my S1 24v girl... and the reply I got was "sorry, no we havent got a box.. BUT if you want to sell the car PLEASE call me," ........ - he didn't say, as I have a customer who wants one.. biggrin.gif

Thats the impression I got from the reply, so I guess they DO want to buy one very cheap to sell on.. Well they wont be getting mine wink.gif
