I have read that the 2.1 is likely to break the rockers and nothing else if you are lucky. Might be worth checking that first as it can be an inexpensive repair. Pity to lose another XM if it is a good one otherwise.

Yes they do ONLY break the rockers, theres 12 in TOTAL MAY not hve broken them all, just about 8 quid or so each I think...

How frustrated am I? mad.gif
Things like this keep turning up and since the fire have no tools/space/spares/facilities to do anything about them.

From experience I think probably only the exhaust rockers will be broken (the inlet valves being twinned don't need to open so far as to hit the pistons.)
Paul must have a better source than my stealer, they wanted £43 +vat each when I last priced the rockers. Not the worst job in the world to change them as you're doing the cambelt anyway. If it's an otherwise good and desirable car it would be a shame to lose it for the sake of just this. What's it worth when fixed? surely worth someone's while to sort it out even if they don't wish to keep it. That's assuming labour and transport remain within reasonable limits.

Hope it doesn't go to waste either way.

Will try to get down and take a look at this 2.1 this afternoon. Just out of interest as I cannot take or repair it and I doubt that Andy will be able to afford the space to store it for long.

Have now looked. Over 200k, drivers seat looks like it has done 500k worn through in lots of places, drivers side strut head well rusted, passenger seat well worn but the body work is good as described. Another of NxxxYBL collection but definately not collectable as the mileage, the state of the engine and the fact that it is an Auto make it only fit for spares/scrap. I gather the owner nearly made it as the belt finally went at the entrance to the industrial estate with less than 100 yards to go.

car has now been scrapped.

Well its a fair end after hearing EXACTLY how well used she was!! A fair few miles driven... a better cop considering some that "go to rest" with just 100k on them!
