Hi all, can anyone tell me whether/how I can send a deposit via Paypal prior to collecting an item and paying the balance in cash when the vendor has already sent an invoice for the full amount. I can't seem to find any way to change the amount from my end, can it be altered at the seller's account? Seller is new to Ebay which doesn't help.
I'd prefer not to pay in full until item seen and this way will also save on Paypal charges so it would seem not unreasonable to do it this way. Maybe Paypal just don't want to lose any of their commission.
Any ideas/suggestions/thoughts gentlemen? (not excluding any ladies reading either ! )
Thanks Rodders.

Hi Rodders,
If you log in to your paypal account you can send money direct to any other paypal member (click on the 'send money' tab).
You will need the other members paypal user name (email address), but I think that will be on the invoice he sent you.

The seller can always amend and reissue a new invoice - I've done this loads of times where
inclusive postage needed to be deducted from the final total as I intended collection in person.
If the seller is a numpty, with no other option available you can use the pay direct to an email
address option which circumvents any connection with ebay (apart from the fact they own
Paypal that is...).
The final option if the seller is amenable, is to deduct a minus value off the invoice in the
postage insertion box in the ebay payment listing (it doesn't just accept positive values.

Thanks so much, Paul and Andrew. Job Done ! Got me out of a hole that was getting deeper by the hour and was heading for the inextricable. I had already asked for an amended invoice without success so I just sent the amount off Ebay and will deduct it when I collect.
I'll know next time-thanks gents. Rodders.

Hi All
Just out of interest Ebay have a recent rule change for sellers. They now deduct the full fee for the full sale value from the sellers account at the time of sale. Part Paypal part cash no longer saves sellers fees. Most casual sellers do not know that this has happened when they complete the sale and still think they can save money. It may well be one of the reasons we are seeing less cars on ebay recently. Or perhapse it explains why so many XM's are withdrawn from ebay at the last minute and there was me thinking that careless sellers having lost or mislaid their XM.
