Full Version Properly Umfh! Tct

I have at question regarding getting the properly umfh out of my TCT.
It dosen´t feel like it has 147 horsepower and certainly not like a baby 6.
I sometimes experience, a lack of power in my TCT. It feels like it hesitates, when you are accelerating from standing position and I have to drive with high revs, if I want to drive swiftly.

As far as I know, the turbo is okay, the rod to the wastegate is connected. The electric valve under front window has been chanced...

Any ideas?

Hi Shans, make sure that the rod to the wastegate isn't siezed, quite possibly in the partially open position meaning that you're losing pressure.

Also, TCT stands for constant torque, the car is tuned to give a consistant boost right across the whole rev range meaning quite a flat (jevn) power band unlike other turbo equiped cars which are designed to give lots of boost at a certain point in the rev range - therefore the car might not feel quite as you might expect it to.

Good luck, Colin.P

Hi Colin!

Thanks. I do know, that the turbo is a low-pressure turbo, wichs working range is from 2.200 - 4.400 revs pr. min.

The funny thing is, that it feels like it generate more pressure these days, when the outside temp. is below 10 Degrees Celsius.

I been thinking, that maybe the intecooler needs a cleaning?

I haven't checked if the rod is siezed. I'll try that

I know it's a daft question but... have you checked the condition of the air and fuel filters ?

Just a thought, Good luck with it, Colin.P

Does the K engine symbol flash up occasionally on the dash? I've recently disturbed the
breathing trunking on the induction of mine changing an alternator and the car now feels
lethargic and brings the light on - I'm expecting it to be either a sensor or an air leak!

My TCT is anything but lethargic, so we can assume something is not right. I think it's all been covered already. Filter, induction manifold, intercooler (unlikely if the filter is doing its job), turbocharger wastegate. If they're alright then it's time to look at the ecu and fuel injection. How is your fuel consumption?

Baby V6 is a very good description.

The air filter is brand new, but the fuel filter... hmmm it might need to be chanced!

Yes it used to. Since I can´t read out the codes stored in the computer, my mechanic did, and he found, that the electric valve, was faulty.

It was chanced, and that helped a lot and K lamp hasn´t lit since.

Derek... my fuel consumption is steady on 10,64 liter pr. 100km. Citroën says 10,42 liter pr. 100 km, so that seems ok.

So to ad up and make at conclusion:

I have to check the following things:

- Fuel filter
- Rod to wastegatte not has ceased
- the breathing trunking on the induction

What about the turbo itself?
Could it simply just has become tired after all these years and many km on the road and need a renovation?
colinxm
Not too sure about the turbo neading an overhaul but there's also the possibility that the injectors will need new valves and re-calibrating, also, when I replaced the head gasket on my 2.1td i found a massive build up of oily carbon deposits behind the heads of the cylinder head valves and in the ports - worst in the induction ports. The valve guides weren't worn so I just re-seated the valves and replaced the valve stem oil seals as a matter of course. If you have the same build up of deposits in the ports the breathing will be seriously restricted.
While I had everything apart I also completely removed all the EGR valve gubbins and blanked off it's port on the turbo unit itself.

As an afterthought, have you checked the static timing of the fuel pump, the electronics can only compensate so much and while you're at it you'll be able to check the crankshaft to valve timing too - a good opertunity to replace the timing belt which I always do quite quickly after buying a new, replace the water pump at the same time to save yourself grief later on - ask me how I found out this little gem of wisdom unsure.gif

Good luck. Colin.P

Colin,

The Turbo TCT is a petrol engine and has electronic fuel injection so there is no static timing on the fuel pump. It just delivers a constant pressure, oh and it's in the fuel tank.

Oh bugger !! my excuse was it was very early in the morning and I was thinking of problems with a mate's 2.5td over a cup of tea laugh.gif

Cheers from a suitably embarrased Colin.P

Soren,

Driving at low speed on a light throttle opening, if I then accelerate I can hear my turbo spinning up. Can you hear yours?

No Derek!

Well to be honest, I haven´t been listing after the turbo spin, but it should be very easy to hear shouldn't´ it?

I´ll try to listen tomorrow when I going for at drive. Maybe the fault is the turbo clogging up with old deposit and need to be cleaned after all. ( In DK i can get a turbo overhaul for approximately 273 £)
