Hi All

There is a posting made this afternoon in the C2 section at the very end of the site . It was made by Chris Light the site Webmaster. First time I have seen a posting by Chris in the 4 years I have been using the site. He talks about having replaced his XM with a C2 and the differences between the cars.
He also included a slightly cryptic comment about the site continuing for now as we have to have somewhere to go. I have replied to his post asking if he could clarify what he means about our future with the site.

Hi John,

Yes I followed that, should be starting to look for a new host... Im uncertain how hosts operate, do you HAVE to pay for them, or can they be put on a machine thats left switched on running and connected to the internet....

How much space do they use etc etc...

Im sure my boss at work said they had spare host space, but Im uncertain on that...

Ill be watching closly...

I was talking to a mate of mine about this earlier who has his own hosting space.

He says that he might have room on it for the forum so if it comes to it i can get him to look into it in a bit more depth.

Regards

David.

What is the position of the rights or ownership with Chris though?

I can point you in the direction of Jim from FrenchCarForum who's been recently
involved in this particular aspect of forum hosting earlier in the year. There is quite
a financial commitment which is why advertising is usually needed which would
somewhat ruin the clean interface of Club-XM.

Dammit, we'd all have to get a life doing something else with our time spent here!? wacko.gif

The position is, the site and everything in it are mine. Like any other site. Something I obviously need to make clear.

What's happening? Wait and see.

DON'T PANIC!

Having run this for over 5 years, I'm hardly going to ditch it just because I just got rid of my XM!

Move along now folks - nothing to see here...

It'd be sad to see the winding up of a welcome place I've enjoyed visiting these past 5 years!!
So there is life after an Xm then?

All the best,
Andrew

Plus what it would to the XM population....

Didn't know this forum had a webmaster, but I seem to vaguely remember having seen the name somewhere before. The man in the shadows with 7 posts . . . blink.gif

Hi Chris

Thanks for clarifying the status of this site. My main concern was to ensure that the content was preserved for the future. Glad that you intend to continue hosting Club-XM.

Sod this for a game of soldiers! Thank you, Chris for hosting this marvelous site and giving us your time and, from what I've read, money.

Where would we be without you? In my case crawling up the wall without my daily fix.

Derek

PS The C2 may be more economical, but £6000 buys a lot of petrol! (about 1200 gallons which at 30mpg gives 35,000 miles plus).

Just the mere mention that the forum's days are uncertain and the levels of new posts has
noticeably dropped or is it my imagination? huh.gif

Hi Andrew

You are right about the volume of post but I don't think its just this site, maybe a seasonal trend? We had our most ever members online earlier this year.

Guess everyone's Xm is currently being a paragon of reliability, nobody has seen another Xm
and there are no other interesting anecdotes to share with our similarly Xm aflicted cyberfriends!!

Maybe everyone's around at Techmanagain's birthday bash!? All the best BTW!!

Anyhow, I'm quite capable of happily talking to myself, madness sets in easily once you've
been left in long term contact with Citroens; they're highly dangerous in heavy doses...

Are you kidding, I just need to give up on sleep so I have enough hours in the day to ge the damn cars upto standard. The XM is still in a million bits, the mighty CX desperately needs a new clutch so can't leave town (horendous clutch slip once you get into any gear above 3rd), GS0.5 is half stripped to bare metal and has started to rust, I need to tidy the Xantia up to sell...... And on it goes sad.gif

Last week I wound the window down in the XM to mask it up .... and the damn thing stopped working... it's never ending I tell you !

seeya,
Shane L.
