Hi Shane
I guess your equivalent of MAPLIN (www.maplin.co.uk) is JAYCAR. The Maplin description of these bulbs is Bulb Small Wire Terminal Type (part no. BT43W) 12V 60mA avg life 16k hrs. They sell them for 60p each.

Thanks Guys,
the only one I could spot at jaycar was this :
http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?I...eMax=&SUBCATID=Sounds like I should buy a few as they'll go into any switches in the car with blown globes too.

Hi Shane
Looks worth a try. Might need to position them only just in the tunnel so the skirt does not cut off the light from the bottom half of the LCD.

12V 1W, that is the specification, same ones which go into Bang&Olufsen receivers, hence the stock I found in my toolbox!
You can peel the plastic skirt off and get a naked bulb.

Display illumination for the Philips unit is provided by three sub-minitaure filament lamps behind the LCD display. Peter and John correctly describe procedure for replacing them.
The lamps themselves are 12v 65mA sub-min wired filament lamps, which you can get from Maplin Electronics, code PG77J, at 99p each.
Clip out the old bulbs with small side-cutters, and use a fine-tipped soldering iron to connect new lamps to the old solder-pads/remains of old wire ends.

PS
If really stuck, remember Maplin in UK accept orders on-line (or by phone), and will despatch worldwide.
Any decent electronics component shop or supplier will be able to supply these standard lamps.
