i'm new to the forum and to the xm but not to citroens (CX 2xBX ZX & Xantia) i'm looking for help locating a flaring tool to replace leaking pipes under my XM i've done the job on a BX (almost all of them!) but it was a looong time ago and i borrowed the tools from a neighbour (the guy that got me hooked on these french beasties) i'm in Hartlepool (NE) and need to move quick as i'm taking the kids away soon so any help (or the loan of) would be great.

being in touch with pleiades and got the bits i need got a 4.5mm flaring tool on a hire basis which keeps the cost down.

used one of these tool to repipe a BX many moons ago but cannot seem to get the ends to form right this time. any advice anyone.

i'm a bit tight for time on this job i need the car on the road for next weekend so i'm going to try and cut out the hole and join the two ends back together. fingers crossed.

I appreciate this might be a bit late but can you describe the failure to make the ends in a bit more detail so we can help you?

What kind of flaring tool is it? Theres a small one which you have to wind a screw in at the end to form the flares. The other one is much larger and is designed to sit in a vice. Th eflare is made by rotating a hanle through 90deg. This pushes the male half of the die into the female half through a cam motion.

First of all, is it 3.5mm pipe you are using? Are you using 3.5mm ends rather than 4.5mm ends? Are the ends a good fit on the pipe? In other words, are the pie ends matched to the pipe you are using?

Are the two halves of the female die and the male die matched? Are they matched to the pipe size? They should be stamped with the pipe size.

Is there the correct amount of pipe sticking through the die to begin with? If insufficient pipe is sticking through then the male half of the die has nothing to push on to form the olive.

Is the clamp on the female half of the die tight? Does the pipe slip backwards in the die as the pressure is applied?

Hopefully this will give you some food for thought. Please come back with more details and we'll guide you in the right direction.

i have a 4.5 mm flaring tool tha you can use under the car, its easy to use/ two spaners/ im in darlington,,,,

the pipe was 4.5mm just before it disappears up behind the rear subframe i got the flaring to work after a bit of practice. been over 15 years since the last time ive made up pipes so suppose i cannot complain
