Hi all,
I know there are various postings on LPG and I'm sure I've tracked most of them down but here are my questions if anyone could kindly answer please?
Anyone got or had a LPG 24v XM?
If so what was the cost of the conversion, was it DIY and certified or pro installed? If DIY did it take long to do, did you buy a kit or individual parts?
What kind of tank was used? Could a torus be installed where the spare is and carry spare in boot?
How did it perform?
What are the running costs - I assume less MPG but half the price of petrol?
During MOT do you know if the tester tested the emissions with the LPG or Petrol - I thought they'd have to check with the dirtiest fuel but have heard otherwise?
Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks.
Steve.

I've not got a 24v running on it so am not sufficiently qualified to comment fully
though I've watched a pal convert his 12v v6 and have just bought a Xantia with
a pro kit fitted from new so am beginning to find my way around the idea for a
conversion to some of my very unfrugal Citroens!
The best tank is the donut in place of the spare as you suggest and from what I'm
told for the marginal drop in the efficiency and performance of individual direct
injectors, the slug into the air induction feed is perfectly acceptable. It'll all suit a
DIY'er though some help will be required for the electickery fooling the petrol
injectors and Ecu to run when the gas is on!
The MOT is a visual test on LPG with no test on the petrol; in fact the tester asks
which fuel you'd like it tested on!!
There are rumblings that the concession on the tax levied on LPG will be run out
imminently from it's advantageous level as it's original term is due! This looks likely
to be another stitch up on us motorists who've been 'manipulated' into chosing this
option from petrol by the meddling Govt. I still recall how we were encouraged to go
diesel about 18 years back as it was the 'Greener' fuel and now look at the pump price...
I wonder whether the LPG situation will have a totally different slant in a year's time
making this conversion a difficult call to make now.

me me me !! Hands high in the air!
I had my S1 24v V6 on LPG for 6 months! unfortunally it was a lesser single point system, and because the 24v has a Twin intake tthrottle body I had to mount the mixer down stream in the Air intake hose!
This meant disaster! Due to the intake pipe and manifold having gas contents the times I had back fires was annoying! I blew my intake hoses up 3 times, fixed it twice but the third was a total loss...
I took the kit back off and put it back on the 12v, to which it performs FAULTLESSLY because the mixer in RIGHT ON the intake manifold..
The 24v will be getting an SGi kit eventually, when I got an MOT back on her..
I cant speak of the Newer S2 24v V6, but I think it has a Single throttle house body, so a Single point LPG system would work ok with them. These days though, SGi kits are so much cheaper, its not worth a Single point system. But mines 3 years old and was VERY CHEAP!

Hi guys,
Thanks for the info. I was thinking of a S2 V6.
The tax situation is a little worrying, buying a thirsty car and fitting a gas kit would be pointless.
I know what you mean about the sudden rise of diesel, back when I passed my test I was driving Mk1 & 2 Astravans and we had a £10 fuel float that would pretty much fill the tank.
Have you anymore info on the Tax mutterings?
Thanks.
Steve.

Well no it wouldn't be pointless!!
The V6 is the SAME Tax as the 2.5..
The V6 will be ten times better equipped then the 2.5...
So I think, and as I do anyway, A V6 on LPG is a good idea.
You can still then afford to drive her enthiusicatly! Like I do often, and know she still gives me about an equivilent 40mpg.. An SGi kit I would have thought would give you more!

My 2.5 exclusive has front electric armrest, so there.....

. It also has cruise control, climate, alloys blah blah blah so the SEi V6 must be some machine to be TEN times better equipped, I wonder what extra equipment that could be

Isn't it obvious!
A V6 engine!!

Ah, moving the goalposts I see to mean the V6 engine is 10 times better than a 2.5 diesel! Leaving aside the 10 times bit, better equipped in what way precisely. Not economy that's for sure, and if you introduce LPG, then please compare with veg. oil on a like for like basis and not forgetting LPG conversion costs.
I could go on but we have been here before on this one. It comes down to personal preference. If you want economy and reliability go for a manual 2.1td.
If you want economy and performance the 2.5td and if you feel it essential to get to the next set of traffic lights first and wait while the rest catch up then the V6 is a clear but costly winner.
Ten times better? ...do me a favour

Come guys please stop with this diesel petrol thing, at least in this thread. I've owned a 1.9 TD (405), HDI 110 (Xantia), 2.1 TD and now 2.5 TD so I've a reasonable idea of the advantages or otherwise of diesels. We are supposed to be XM fans so why are we going on about which engine is better? Most people would say buy a BMW, Audi, Toyota, etc. stay away from complex Citroens. Her in doors runs a VW Polo which I drive a couple of times a week, I really like the sweet nature of the 1.4 petrol engine makes a nice change from a big diesel.
Anyhow moving on, any more LPG info would be great, where would you fit the bits? How involved is running the pipework from tank to evaporator (?). Has anyone got or fitted a underfloor tank?
Had a Xantia, may go back to one yet! Exclusive 2.1 or HDi.
Thanks.

Steve,
Have a look at this link, they sell kits and stuff and also offer training and advice.

Hi Steve,
I agree, we are fortunate to have a good selection of trim, equipment level, petrol and diesel engines in the XM range to suit individual preferences. That's all that matters, and is the point of view I was defending.
Good luck with your quest for info on LPG conversion.

I've just bought a Series 2 with an LPG Conversion on it, here's what under the bonnet looks like:
