Hi all.
Mate has got one of the last 1.9TD BX. It has developed a regular, quite quick cyclic variation at idle, hunting up and down between approx 800 - 1200 rpm. It has become sufficient that creeping along in first, in traffic is turning into a bit of a kangaroo job. There is see through delivery pipe to the injection pump and the supply appears air free. No issues at higher revs.
My assessment is that it is a pump governor issue (unfortunately). If anyone has had -- and cured this, simply --- please share !!!

I've come across this a couple of times now.
I think you are right about the pump governor.
Which type of pump is it. Lucas or Bosch?

Ken,
Might have guessed Lucas, dont boschs rearely give problems?
I have a lucas pump, off a 205 Turbo, if it would be a sufficient replacment for it..

Sadly yes, it always seems to be the Lucas ones that give this problem. Left alone it will get worse, to the point where the car will suddenly rev up into the red
