The garage was all out of XM's when I called, I've used their Dyane once before when they were all out of Xantias too! The guvnor won't let my try the CX Pallas though as it's "fairly unreliable"

Ah ha I see...

Great stuff!!

One day soon, I should have a Xantia to loan to my "few" loyal customers I do repairs for..

My S1 has the best car seats I've ever sat in. The leather is soft and supple, the seat is supportive without being hard. It feels like an armchair, and in all honesty it is more comfortable than the living room sofa I'm currently typing this from!
I have back problems (which have got much worse of late), so I find the electric seat adjustment a big advantage, I just have to press a button when things get painful, as opposed to stooping over and pulling levers etc.
In contrast, my uncle has just got a new (to him) Passat TDI. I took it for a quick spin tonight. Lovely smooth, quick engine, well put together interior with high quality materials.... but the seats and ride, utterly terrible. Seats were so firm they felt hard, and even when tilted back slightly the backs felt like they were forcing you to sit bolt upright. The suspension seemed to bounce you around at every little bump in the road.
All in all, a very capable, if ordinary / dull car. Probably superior to the XM in some respects, like the engine and build, but would I ever give mine up for something like this, not a chance!

On a side note, it did amuse me how half my family were gushing over this Passat... "Oh it even has climate control!!, and a thing that tells you how many MPG you're doing!!", like it was the best thing since sliced bread. Just shows you how they've been slumming it in car terms all this time!

The seats in my Xantia SX are quite nice to sit in, but I've never driven it a huge distance so can't comment on longevity vs back pain. smile.gif

Even though I love my S1 with manual leather, because it doesnt have anti sink
I find I have to take care getting in when it has sunk, as its quite low and can set the lower back off. Best to start it then get in (no code on that one, hurray), worst is to have to get in passenger side because it is impossible to open drivers door sufficiently
far to start it (high kerb).
