Full Version 2.0i Juddering

Evening guys smile.gif

Has anyone else with the 2.0i 8v noticed that it can kind of judder a bit sometimes when crawling slowly forward in traffic, in 1st or 2nd, or is it just me?

It doesn't lurch violently like with a misfire or hesitation etc, just there can be a slight bit of 'jerking', and the drive just isn't very smooth in either of those two gears at certain low (crawling in traffic) speeds. It has done this since I first got the car, and initially I just thought it was my driving, that I was used to the higher torque of the diesel etc. But lately the problem seems to have gotten slightly worse in this recent cold snap, and I now sometimes get the juddering when accelerating out of 1st or second, as opposed to crawling along.

Perhaps its just a characteristic of this engine, I'm not sure, but I'm thinking something might be slightly amiss with plugs, HT leads or similar. Has anyone else experienced similar, or am I the odd one out... or maybe they all do it.. I'm not sure, but would be very interested in hearing everyone else's thoughts on the matter smile.gif

Hi Ciaran,

I always found my two normally aspirated 2.0s smooth down to a real crawl - below the normal tickover speed and they would then accelerate away, slowly but smoothly.

I suggest you monitor this as it may be the first sign of a weakening ignition amplifier module. Again I eventually had this on both cars and it can show itself as a loss of power and/or a comlete cut. Fortunately it's easy to get at and not too expensive.

Thanks Derek.

Thats an interesting point, thinking back to my first 2.0i, it never had this issue, but I did once investigate the ignition module because it had a problem with stalling.
Are they a universal item, or would they be specific to the different ignition systems these engines come with?

Cheers
