Hi all

Last night when i got home i turned the car off and took the key out of the ignition, and the sports mode light was illuminated, after 5 secs or so it went out, is this a fault or is all well?
Ciaran
Hi Dean.

Mine does that sometimes. Very rarely when the ignition is turned off, but pretty frequently when a door is opened and the car is idle. I'm led to believe its normal.

Hi Ciaran

Thanks, Do you know why it does it though? this is the first time it has happened to me, i thought it just illuminated to remind you that you had pressed the sport switch (as if the rock hard ride wasn't enough of a reminder biggrin.gif )
Ciaran
Hi Dean,

I'm not 100% sure unfortunately. I did see an explanation for it once, but I've forgotten what it is. It might be something to do with the valves opening to keep the suspension from moving suddenly while passengers are getting in/out, but I can't remember sad.gif

No doubt one of our esteemed colleagues will be along shortly to set the record straight though biggrin.gif

The switch earths the feed from the ecu to put the car into normal mode. The Mk1 I had used to regularly go into sport mode because of a poor earth. Try cleaning it up. If I remember right it earths behind the plastic panel to the rignt of the accelerator pedal. Another one of those poor earth problems.

Hi Assich

Its not actually switching into hard mode, that's the odd thing, its just turning the light on when the keys aren't even in the ignition! the light does not come on when I'm driving unless i put it into sports mode, which is right. I just cant understand why the light would come on, on its own?!?!?!

Some times when i enter the car, after open the doors with the remote, I notice the light on, but I think is normal, If I'm not wrong when the car stops, it passes for sport mode I belive it's for some (electric) energy saving, deactivating a valve (removing the signal).
Now I'm tasting a diferent problem, when i change to sport mode, the matix display the information but the light don't go on, most of the times.
Do I have any big problem.

Miguel, are you sure the bulb is OK?

Hi all.

No specific answer to this, but two or three of the S1 I had displayed this intermittent sport lamp -- I just leaqrned to ignore it -- on a par with the spurious rear brake lamp warning !

Sounds like a simple earthing problem and not worth the trouble of finding it unless doing some other electrical job.
