What. Issues with BX's, I do not believe it! biggrin.gif
Peter.N.
Trailing arm bearings, door hinges detaching themselves from the body, hydraulic pipes rusting....... Actually, that's all I can think of! Still a brilliant car though. I think the TD was the original hot hatch, it would out accelerate the XM. I think the best one was the TZD, we had one for years, and it would probably still be going if someone hadn't driven into it when it was parked.

Didn't know Bx doors broke away from the bodyshell like Xantiae!!

You don't fancy a silver K plate end of the line 1.7 saloon in near mint low mileage
condition? Mate of mine is wondering about selling his and fancies it going to a good
home rather than being sold on to someone to run into the ground as a hack!

It wouldn't be URJ in Southampton would it.
Andmcit
Apologies for my ignorance - saw it again yesterday - it's actually a TXD! It's in Cowbridge
near Cardiff, South Wales. When I spoke to the owner about it he did suggest he was thinking
of letting his partners' 17 year old son learn to drive in it... blink.gif wacko.gif huh.gif

Oh well, never mind, that's the end of that car then!!

Hi all

My first car was a silver K reg BX DTR, near 50 mpg and could realy pick up its skirt and go until someone didnt put a new bottom pully bolt on after they had taken it off!, And the result???? BANG........and lots of holey pistons and bent valves!!! What an idiot.
Andmcit
The new learner driver has been offered a 'slower sturdier' Xantia
to learn to drive in so the TXD is going to be available! So, does
anyone fancy a smart fully MOT'd silver last of the line 1.7 TXD?

Location Cardiff or Bristol. I think it's a smart looking car with a
very nice interior, and Bx's aren't really my thing! smile.gif

All offers listened to!!

Had 3 BX's-first two were petrol models but each needed the front door hinges welding back into place.
the third a TZD estate was a real flier-trailing arms went and the crossmember under the front of the engine got a bit rusty too. Also the 'octopus' can become incontinent and is a b****r to do-apparently!
onthecut
Hi all

Can confirm without doubt that the Octopus is a real sod to replace. Also had the top front hinge come adrift. Always impressed by the performance, economy and space of the BX estates ----- but ------ very, very 'tinny' compared to the XM. Know which one I'd sooner be in if I had a prang.

Ah.. Nostalgia. Had 2 BXs. A Mk1 1.4 Leader - bit of a banger but went well till someone drove into it outside my house.

Then a Mk2 19 TRS. Now that went well. Performance knocked the socks off my 2.5. But then, it was about a third of the weight. It was rare that I could find a BMW that could keep up with me from the lights in that. 230K and it could still do 0-60 (by the spedo) in under 9 seconds. Carb was it's letdown tho. It needed it's third by the time I got rid of it (it was also burning oil by then).

Fuel consumption was a bit horrific though.

Kind of regret getting rid of it, but Not having space for a 'spare' car I had to.

there must be a steady proving ground for xm owners. my previous long term runner was a J reg 1.9 TZD BX. excellent car and never ever had any trouble with it - at all. non turbo and very simple to work with by comparison with the 2.5 XM

with 230k on it, and am impending xm purchase, i actually gave it to my mechanic friend who had looked after it for years. I do miss the plastic bonnet! In fact the xm feels (is) extremely heavy by comparison.

not seeing too many any more.
Peter.N.
I didn't know they made a non turbo TZD - you learn something new every day!

the 1.9l engine. i think it was 'tzd'. i remember the bx i had before that one was 'dtr' which i believe was the same 1.9l diesel. robust either way. perhaps i have had the xm longer than i thought if my memory is fading!
