Hi

Not sure if I've posted this is the right place, so mods plese move if necessary.

Odd request but does anyone have any photos or links to photos of an XM fitted with the tan or tabac (presumably the latter name) leather interior? Did they do leather in other colours too? I'd simply assumed that seeing as everyone I'd seen with leather was black or grey with alcantara, that was your lot.

Many thanks in advance

Hi

Thanks for that - sorry, yes, should have said I was referring to S2 models.

Hmm - I like it. Looks the same colour as the leather in my Xantia - much lighter shade than I'd expected.

Thanks again.

Having seen the front, I definitely like the look of it. Anyone on the forum actually own one with cream/tan/tabac leather?

Hi

During my XM watching I have seen just a couple advertised with tan upholstery, both were 2.1TD's so there was the odd UK one with this leather. Never got to see one as they were sold and collected by the time I rang up. I particularly like the matching door panels and carpet but that would make swapping to another car a major job. The other leather colour I have seen in an XM was a 2.5 Estate in Dark Brown leather. This was at WHM three or four years ago and already sold. They said that it was a motor show display model that was specially fitted out. It had all the toys, A/C & cruise etc and as I recall colour coded side trims and bumpers. The leather on this car was a better quality that any of the 3 grades of black leather that were fitted to XM generally as you would expect for a show car.
Just had a look in a French XM Oct 98 brochure and this lists a cloth and 3 leather interiors as options with 10 paint colours. The Tan is listed as Cuir Savane, Black as Cuir Ouragan and Suade/Grey leather as Cuir Tempete et Alcantara. I cannot find any UK XM brochure that offered Tan leather as an option so there will not be many with this trim. In Georges photos there is a Mk2 glove box with simulated wood trim something I have never seen in any XM. Do you know the history of that photo?

Xmexec,

I dont like that positioning of the CD changer, right in Eyes view!

It MUST be a Japan spec car, as theres virtually no crime of cars over there..

I would dare have my CD changer in view...

I STILL swear by FULL leather, and it must be black.. biggrin.gif

Hi all

xmexclusive, what u mean "3 black leather grades"? I can't recognise more than 1 full black leather refering to seating (of course door trim are different) ?

The dark car is 99.9% a German car as I often look german ebay. I just checked other photos I have of the second car attached, and it also has the wood trim on glovebox. I know that this car was Austrian.

ps. the Austrian car is an S2 PRV 24v.

As far as I've seen, one disadvantage of the tan leather as opposed to black is that with use it develops (like the black) "cracks" or "lines" (u know what I mean) which look awful on its creamy color. But I guess this can be rectified by a leather expert?

Hi George

Black leather in XM's is found with two different colours (true black and slightly greyish black) then there are two thicknesses of leather used. Generally the first grade of thicker, true black leather went into the upmarket cars. Exclusives in the case of Mk2's and despite the name not into Mk1 Prestiges. These and the later black leather Mk2 VSX's usually got second grade leather (graded by thickness, surface finish and dye colour) but each car was trimmed in a full matching set of leather. None of this notices or matters until you start putting a leather trim together with bits from different cars.
The simulated wood trim edge to the Mk1 dash glove box seemed to be common to the upmarket cars in all countries but virtually unknown in Mk2's. I wonder if it was a special for the German market where internal trim seems more important than in the UK.

HHmm, now u say so it's true that I've seen some greyish full leather specially in S2s but I thought it was becaue of the newness. While S1s usually have a true black, "polished"-looking, because of wear, leather.

I always fancied as well the cream leather, but sometimes I wonder whether I could be everyday in such a car -is it perhaps too much?-. Imagine you buy it all happy and then you discover that you psychologically can't stand it !!

Hi

I did have a look at a '99 V6 24v Burgundy with the tan leather leather a few years ago. It looked a very good combination but the citroen dealer was asking silly money. Black leather and black does me fine now.

Cheers

My Exclusive has black leather and it is nice most days - except the (what we call) depths of winter when we go to see the in laws near the Snowy Mtns and it is sometimes -12c overnight. With no seat heaters it is a thrill to jump in the car late at night or the next morning.

Of course in summer the joy of bbq'd thighs is one that we should all experience.... blink.gif

Other XMs sold here have had cream leather and yes the marks do show up. Yet other models have the combo suede and leather insides. We received strange combinations of interiors. Some with steering wheel audio controls, others without and so forth. For a market that only sold 150 or so XMs new in its entire life and only in V6 auto it can be very confusing.

My dream C6 is rouge delage or similar with tan leather and of course diesel. Now if I can just find someone to buy one new and I buy it second hand in a few years after they have worn the depreciation!
