There seven XMs of various types on the Adtrader website. Most of which I have not seen before.

Hi

Including the genuine looking 29k miles '98 2.0 turbo. Must be one of the lowest mileage ones around.

Cheers

Someone tell me they didn''t make any.?
Peter.N.
Well, Iv'e never seen one! Sounds as though it ought to be a good car at that mileage for that money.....should I give him a ring. unsure.gif

Hi

I had a friend who's father had a naturally aspriated 1.9 XM that he bought in Belgium. It was unbeleiveably slow (a calender was required for planning overtaking) and he had very negative views on XMs - until he had a go in my 24v!

Hi Peter,

The 29k miles R reg car has been on there for some time now. I just can't believe no one's bought it at that price (£1,295). It's a heck of a lot of car for the money. Apart from possibly needing spheres - what can be wrong with it?

Go on - give him a ring - I bet he'll take £1,000 now - you know you want another one really!

Give it a few years and this car will be worth 2 or 3 times that. (If you like petrol XM's - it's worth that now IMHO.)

On a serious note - it's almost worth buying just to experience an XM at such low mileage. I thought my own car was in great condition - but when I bought the V6 with only 17k miles on it I couldn't believe the difference - it was like a brand new car. The down side was - I then ended up spending even more on my original car trying to get in on par with the V6 - so be warned!

Good luck

Hi Roy

Sorry, my field of aquisition is limited to Mk2 2.1td manual estates and as they only sold them for about 16 months and most of them were registered in Jan'96, I have been lucky to find three!

Hi Peter,

Ah - I didn't realise you already had a third! (I've only been able to have a quick peek here for the past few weeks.)

I agree with you that the 2.1TD manual is probably the best all round XM in terms of performance / economy / reliability.

I still prefer the 2.5TD though - even if ownership of one comes with a degree of risk!

Hi Peter and Roy...and all.
Reluctantly after a year(only)of both I think you are both right.I think the 2.1(Estate)offers the best all round combination.Having discovered the trip computer on mine I got 46mpg on my trip to Lymington today.I am sure a 2.1 driven sensibly would have achieved at least another 10mpg.At the age of 43 I am officially an old girl when it comes to driving economically.Lets face it you don't buy an XM to be a boy racer although the V6's seem a bit quicker. My timing belt was due last week(144K)but I am continuing without having it done.I have done 31K in the last year with minimal expense and have decided if it goes it goes.I will try and find a 2.1 Estate or buy the 2cv Van and become a hippy!

Hi Roy and Rob

No, I dont have a third but I have had three N497,471 and 451YBL, but they are getting older. 497 was my first which had a key pad, 471 and 451 I have now which dont, and yet they were all registered in Jan '96. I think 497 has probably gone to the scrapyard in the sky by now as it had 292k miles on it when I sold it. All mechanical fuel injection and they have all done 50+ mpg. I have done nearly 1000 miles on a tankful. Plus enough room to carry a three peice suite.

smile.gif Hi

Has anyone looked at the 29k VSX turbo? By the phone code it seems to be in Ashburton, Devon. I'm very tempted, but living in Southern France makes viewing difficult.

Hi Sean

I didn't see that one, where is it advertised? That's my part of the country, I might be able to have a look but I dont know much about modern petrol engines.

smile.gif Hi Peter

Thank you for reply. It's in Autotrader, I've just checked and it is still listed. It's a trade sale and has been on Autotrader before, about 3 weeks ago at same price.
It has FCSH and 10 month's MOT. Tel is 01364 654097.

Hi Sean

Right, I have been down and driven it this afternoon. When I looked inside at the condition of the upholstery, I thought, no way has this only done 29K, its not damaged, just dirty, and it smells of dogs, so I questioned the milage and he produced a fully stamped up service book confirming it, and by local Citroen agents. Another thing that would seem to confirm the mileage is that it still appears to have the original spheres! all flat of course, but driving it is something else, it really does feel like a 29k motor and seems to give an excellent ride in spite of the flat spheres. The bodywork is not pristine but not rough either. The key pad is very worn, appearance wise, everything I tried functioned, but then I didn't try everything. It looks as though it has only been used to take the dogs for a walk, several times a day.

I summary, interior tatty although would probably come up with a good clean, mechanically it seems very good, no head gasket leakage and plenty of antifreeze. the engine sounds nice and although I dont like auto boxes, this one seems very smooth.

So there you have it.
