Presumably I need to get elevanted above mere "member" status to add a pic to my profile like some other have?

Is this the right place to post forum rather than XM related questions?

regards
DrTim
I notice newer members than I can post pics. I still get

sorry, the board administrator has not enabled your permissions for this part of the control panel.

when I try and add a picture.

Am I doing something wrong? I keep checking the controls but cant see anything Ive missed.

Hi Tim,

Its possible Noz has perhaps reconfigured something recently. I didn't have a problem adding my avatar, but I did it ages ago, like a year or more. ago, when I had much less posts.

Perhaps its been changed to be based on post count, but only the man behind the scenes knows for sure! smile.gif

Your avatar looks rather amusing for me at the moment. Not sure if it is a board thing or my browser. It is all stretched so it looks blocky and out of shape.

It is kind of the same proportions/shape as a mini at the moment. laugh.gif

Haha...nice one, save a screenshot if you can. A mini sized XM... two XMs... this I have to see! laugh.gif

Hi Dr Tim,

Sorry, I didn't see your original post. I wasn't ignoring you, honest.

I can assure you that I've done nothing to restrict anyone's avatar. Have you followed the avatar rules? Theres a limitation on file size and theres a limitation on the pixels x pixels sizing. Can't remember what they are but I'm sure it says when you go to upload. Are you trying to upload to club-xm server or are you just placing a link to some external source? Do you have 'cookies' enabled for club-xm website? (do you have to log in each time you come here or when you return are you logged in automatically?

I'm leaning towards it being a problem with your own computer rather than club-xm but then what I know about computers you could crayon on the back of a postage stamp.

Please let me know how you get on and I'll do the best I can to help.

Cheers

It isn't doing it now, but it is a different PC. I will see if it does it on Monday and get a screenshot if it Does.

I notice you now have 2 XMs in the avatar. I think it was just sizing the original 1 XM to the shape/size of the 2 XMs biggrin.gif

HI all

I cant seem to set a picture of my xm as an avatar either!
I took the photo with my camera set to vga (email size) and ive tried editing the photo in paint shop, but i can only get the file size down to 48kb and i notice the maximum permisable size is 20kb!
It must be possible but computers are'nt my thing.

Use Serif Photo Plus 6.0. It's free. Easy to use!

OK all thanks for the comments I was trying the "Upload Picture" link below the Edit Avatar link, I just needed pointing at the Avatar feature so Noz, it was a problem my end but not with the PC. Mind you, my pic looks crap at 20K. Will fine tune when I get a some time.
DrTim
Dean, I am using PaintshopPro 7, File->Export->JPEG Optimizer is your friend, ramp up the compression to hi 90's. if that isnt enough process iteratively.

Hi all

OK i have managed to take the photo with a mobile and edit it in paint shop, and have shrunk the image down to below 20kb, but the file is bitmap whatever that is, and it needs to be j.peg i think, so how do i sort that out????

Easy way is to transfer your picture to an on-line site like
http://photobucket.com/
In the edit option you can select 'avatar' size, then copy and paste the URL to your
'MY CONTROLS' on this site.
That should do it OK.
