105k, £1,095 in Scotland to! Looks quite nice. Hatchback, doesn't say if its manual or not. There are also several others on there at Alice in wonderland prices. Sorry, Autotrader web site.

Hi all,
Spoke to the dealer when the car was advertised who was helpful.
It was an Arnold Clark trade in which has been mis-advertised, does not have aircon or heated seats.
The car is manual and has a LHM leak which he was going to try and have a look at.
Looks good otherwise.
Cheers,
Mark.

Hi Peter.
As I presume the action is all over now, one way or the other ---- and as I'm nosy --- what was the outcome of the Southam car ??

Hi Mike
Sorry about the lack of information, but I have been waiting..... No one bid on the car as I expect you noticed, so I phoned the chap confident that he would take £200.00 for it, not a bit of it, he had a reserve of £600.00 on it so I wouldn't have got it if I had bid. I might have gone to the £300.00 if pushed but no more. He is getting a quote for repairing it and is hoping to put it back on the road, I can't say I blame him, he must have already spent well over 1k on it already and as I said, it drives beautifully. So, I have left him an offer of £200.00 if he decides to sell it but I'm not holding my breath.

Hi Peter.
Sounds like the chap is in the classic quandary --- more money and it's fixed. or is it good money after bad ?! Have to say, looking at it originally on Ebay, it didn't do it for me; particularly the bodywork damage and the otherwise high miles. It's ironic that the left hooker they have listed has got just what I want --- estate, leather aircon and diesel. Shame the wheel's in the wrong place ! Oh well -- the watching brief goes on.

Hi Mike
Well, I wasn't to bothered about the mileage as my last one had done 292k when I sold it and was the most reliable one I have had! It had been a taxi mind, so probably had been well maintained. But this one drove so nicely, better than mine, lovely light clutch which made for easier gear changes, also lighter steering and less vibration transmitted to the car. I was commenting to him that it didn't seem to be pulling very well and than noticed I was trying to accelerate from 30 mph in 5th! but the engine didn't complain in the least. I can do the same in my car but you can feel it. Whether it was the tight engine or I have something deficient in the mounting department, I don't know. Other than the faults mentioned it was in pretty good condition.

Hi Peter,
I hate to say this - but there was no reserve on his auction. Any bid would have got it. I happened to check it with 6 minutes to go and couldn't believe it had no bids. I thought you were playing it cool and were going to snipe it at £299. I might have had it myself if I thought you weren't going to buy it / it wasn't so far away / I had the time / the space / .... or if I hadn't managed to hold onto reality for another few minutes!
Seems like an awful lot of car for £299 though doesn't it?

Hi Roy
Well when I phoned him that's what he told me - £600.00 reserve, so I didn't question him. I was playing it cool by not bidding because I didn't think anyone else would - but it all went wrong. There may be a remote chance he would still sell it to me, but I am not to bothered as my present car is behaving well, in fact since I changed the head gasket 30k+ ago, practically nothing has gone wrong with it. I just liked the idea of a new engine/clutch etc.
