I eventually gave in to the continious reminders from Microsoft, and installed IE7 and have wasted hours trying to eliminate the faults it introduced, the main one being, inability to print out anything from the net. They do supply a 'fix' for it, which to my mind is an admission that its defective, but it doesnt work! All is not lost though, IE6 is an integral part of windows, so you can uninstall IE7 without loosing contact with the outside world, on rebooting it will reinstall IE6. Peace now reigns once more.

I reckon it must have a conflict with something else you have loaded --- I've installed it and had no problems at all --- so there !!!! Seasons Greetings etc. etc.

Yes, bog standard set up -- XP, IE7 and Outlook Express. The main thing that irritates me on my machine is the Norton anti virus. Takes forever to load when you turn it on and if it's doing anything, seems to monopolise the processor. Not very impressed.

I too have had problems with IE7 and have got everyone at work warned not to download it. Personally I've been using Mozilla Firefox for the last few months and now use it in preference to IE. It has nothing to do with disliking Mr Gates intensely, honest

It is said that is much less vulnerable than IE to hackers. Being that IE is akin to a collander when it comes to breaches you'd be better off with two cups and a ball of string

I too "upgraded" to IE7 but can't honestly say I had any problems with it, since I trust the wisdom of you guys I'm now running firefox - seems ok, I like the thought of less vulnerability from hackers as I use the net alot for buying crap (my wife's description) from all over the world

My wife downloaded IE7 and the computer refused to allow any Internet access at all! She reverted back to IE6 and all is good again. And I wish I understood what those last 2 sentences meant!

Oh thats a relief! I'm glad I'm not the only one. Its obviously not an uncommon problem because Microsoft offer a repair sheet which lists about half a dozen possible missing files, I loaded them all and it worked once and then reverted to its original behaviour. It was mainly the lack of printing with mine, but also sometimes you would click on a link and the screen would dissapear.

Hi all, with Noz mentoning Firefox - I use the whole Sun Microsystems Package and only run the Windows element of Microsoft becuase I am not a Linux nut.
Linux is widely used in the research labs here with Sun Microsystems because it is more stable and yes, more difficult to hack.
With the latest versions from Sun there are fewer conflicts between Word and Sun Office which inlcudes all the same functions such as Excel and PowerPoint but their own versions which I personally prefer but that is a very subjective matter. I use both extensively and swap between Microsoft Office at work and Sun at home.

And yes, Sun Microsystems Office and Firefox is free unless you donate which I did in order to keep the community alive.
Incidentally many finacial institutions use Sun for security reasons.

I too have used Firefox for a long while now and I've also encouraged the rest of the family to do so - and they now prefer it.
I have also started using their email software - Mozilla Thunderbird.
Norton Antivirus does seem to be a rather intrusive program and I have been using AVG Antivirus Pro - it's only £21.66 for TWO years renewal!

I've heard s omany problems about IE7, thankfully someone told me about Firefox just as I finished with AOL, no problems to report.

IE6 wouldn't open any attatchments or photos after AOL, but Firefox cured that. Also I use AVAST antivirus, it's another freebie which update everyday as you log on, when I first downloaded it, it found 17 virus and nasty things which Mcafee was supossed to detect.
Do date, nothing has got past it.
