Is it just me, but when I click on an attachement to a post, IE a pdf or a .jpg, it opens in a new window but not correctly, IE I just get garbled text, I use a few other forums and it only happens here, any clues anyone?

Even if I right click it and choose save as it saves it as index.php etc so I have to type a new name ie test.jpg then it saves and works fine

So its not just me - I have the same problem. I used to be able to download the self-help files but then something changed and now it doesn't work. Frustrating because I'm keen to read some of the files.

Hi All

Have just lost my ability to download the attachments correctly. Used to be OK now garbage, even my own uploads. I think the difference is a change from a software firewall to a hardware one at my end. Will try a few tests after I have found the 3000 odd digital photos that have also gone awol in the machine and system changes.

Are you all using Acrobat?

I ditched it ages ago. I use a little utility called Foxit Reader. Used to be available from Download.com although they do have their own website.

Hi Lez et al,

I'm sorry I don't have a direct answer from you. I have suffered from the same symptoms in the past. I found a solution that works for me. I use Norton Internet Security. If I temporarily disable it I can download no problem at all. I've searched in vain through all of the settings to find out which one stops it but to no avail. I've resigned myself to the fact that I have to do this every time I need to download something. On one hand it doesn't seem to happen with other sites I visit but on the other I can make the problem go away by switching NIS off. The first suggests its a server problem the second suggests its machine related.

I give up. I'm not sufficiently IT literate to figure it out.

(For information I use XP Pro, a mixture of IE6.0 and Firefox, Acrobat 6.0.)

If you can't solve it just drop me a line and I'll send you copies of the files on CD.

Cheers
