I have just purchased my third XM, a 1993 SEI Turbo, which has one or two problems to address. The main concern is quite a serious leak of fluid that appears to be coming from the driver side front wheel arch upper area (I have noticed a large puddle in the small compartment under the bonnet near the wing mirror). Any suggestions as the likely source of the leak would be appreciated. Regards, Matthew T.

The RHD XM brake valve is rod worked and located in the front scuttle along with the windscreen wiper drive motor. Sounds the likely source of you LHM leak.

Carefully spring off the two plastic end covers on the scuttle trim (in front and just below the windscreen). There are a couple of plastic clips on the back that unhook with heavy downward pressure. Below this you will find 2 screws holding down the ends of the scuttle. There is a further screw fixing at the centre of the front of the scuttle panel. The panel is then pulled up and back towards the windscreen to release the 4 plastic spigots that hold the front in place. I is a bit of a sod working the panel out around the bonnet hinges. You should now be able to see the Brake valve and examine it to see if you can see the location of the leak.

It could also ONLY be the Low pressure return pipe from the barke valve...

a possiblity, instead of changing the whole valve..

Check it first..
