Hi all,

I've got a little project on the go and I need to make myself a little transformer. To do that I need a soft iron core or a ferrite torroid. I'm guessing I need something around 100mm diameter if circular or 100mm square/rectangular. I've tried ebay but the largest I can get is 35mm diameter. Do any of you electronics buffs have anything I could dismantle and extract or give me any pointers where I might get one?

I have plenty of secondhand line output transformers with cores that will dismantle, they would be more or less square, if you dont mind dismantling one. I will be away this weekend but will have a look on Monday if you can wait that long.

I dont have any as big as that but a have one 75mm x 45mm and a couple 75 x 40. They are in two halves to fit into the coils from the ends and held together with a wire clip, but they are also glued, so you will need some patience to get them apart without breakage...but then you do run an XM.... One long side is about 15mm diameter and the other 15mm square. Any use?

Sorry for the delayed reply. The 75 x 45 mm core sounds just right for my project particularly being split. It makes changing the turns ratio much easier because the coil can be wound on a former on the bench prior to fitting.
