Hi Melvin

There are 2 different strut heads fitted to Mk2's. They are not interchangable. For the heavier engined cars a larger diameter strut pushrod with matching head is used. The larger ones are virtually impossible to find though with more Mk2's now going to scrap this may change.
If you do find any in good condition on a scrap car then I would recommend that you recover the head and strut as a matched pair. As I read it the Russek handbook says that the hydraulic cylinder size is the same for both types so both sides of the car do not have to be the same just a matched set on each side.
New strut heads are expensive (£250+)
There is an entry on the site about strut head repair kit from Scandinavia for about £125 but no one from this country seems to have reported on it. When I checked it out a while ago I had doubts about proving that it satisfied MOT requirements.

I have a pair of early type (16mm thread at the top) complete with suspension units from a 1995/6 petrol car. In sound condition. Can't give them away, as I bought them myself, then changed the car! Contact me by Private Message on this site or tel 01455 557918.(evening)
