I see some XM's were retro fitted with a/c when new.
Is it possible to buy a "kit" of parts to self fit?
Then have it professionally checked and gassed up?

Possible, but it would probably cost more than your car did! Even removing the whole unit from a scrap car, if you can find one, and fitting it in yours would be a monumental task. It not just the bits under the bonnet that you can see, it also involves taking the complete heater out. And then you will probably find that it needs a new compressor.

Hi demag
I have been trying to collect bits to aircon some 2.5's for a couple of years now. There is even more to do than Peter mentioned. To fit the evaporator in the heater box you have to take the box out. To get the heater box out you have to remove the entire dash and support it on straps from the car roof. Then you will have to cut a hole about 80mm by 50mm in the chassis front bulkhead to fit the evaporator outlet to the aircon pipes in the engine bay.
