Have you tried GSF?

I know it will cost a bit but there arnt that many scrap XMs around let alone V6s. for some reason I think yours is the same as mine 2.5td? probably got it wrong.

Or, get a GSF catalogue and cross check your starter ref with other makes, try Renault Safrane / Pug/ Saabs? etc and then go keyboard walking for a starter from one of these.

Remenber yahoo XM-l members get an at least 10% discount card from GSF so it might help a bit

I'll widen my search a bit; I've been told that the V6 engine was fitted to some Peugeot cars well as the Citroen; don't know about compatability with 2.5 turbo diesel engine.

Problem Solved (I hope).

I checked Andyspares and got redirected to their parent site. They can supply a rebuilt starter motor with 12 months guarantee for £99 plus VAT. So rather than keeping on trying to get a second hand unknown unit, then overhauling it and fitting the thing I reckon the Andyspares route is the way to go. If anyone knows different, I'd really appreciate your information asap as I'm ordering the motor on Monday.
