I parked my car in a friends drive the other day and just as I was leaving I had to get something out of the back, as I was parked against a post, I let the brake off to run forward a little, put my foot on the brake and nothing happened, I ended up in the road narrowly missing a car, before I managed to stamp on the parking brake pedal.
The car had been parked for half an hour or so, is this normal? I seem to remember that my CXs would hold the brake pressure overnight but they did have a seperate brake accumulator. I am also still having trouble with the pressure taking a long time to come up especially on cold mornings. I have fitted a new pump and accumulator sphere and replaced the regulator and distribution valve. Could the problem be with the brake valve? All suggestions gratefully recieved. Hi Peter,
Sounds like you've got a sizable internal leak somewhere. May even be the brake valve itself. The old tried and tested methood is to remove the return tubes from the LHM tank lid one at a time to see which circuit the fluid is coming back from. Each connection on the tank is dedicated to a particular circuit so it doesn't take long to suss which component is causing the problem. If you suspect a particular device then going straight to the return from the device short cuts the tests at the tank. Hope that helps. cheers noz -------------------- '10 '59' C5 2.0 HDi Exclusive Tourer Metallic Grey

Thanks Noz
I remember you writing about that before. The strange thing is that once the pressure has come up the pump only cuts in about every 20 seconds although on tickover it sometimes doesn't cut out until you give it a few revs. I will investigate further.... when it stops raining! Then you are definitely loosing pressure somewhere, I just did my pressure regulator (added extra shims to old one, not replaced it), and with a measured pressure of between 145-170 bars, and almost new spheres everywhere, it cuts in every 2 minutes (!) on standstill. If all components you mention are new and good, definitely you got a (big) leak somewhere else.

So I noticed from your other post, George,
This is the first car I have had this this problem on and its a relativly low miler so I am surprised. I will persue it when we get the summer back! Peter.N. -------------------- Used to have:
