Hi Gang,
Having spent over 400 notes on a new exhaust centre section last year, today the rear silencer broke at the inlet pipe. Does anyone know of a good source for stainless steel silencers? Hi Derek,
The only one I know of is the guy who advertises in the Citroenian magazine every month. The company name is PD Gough. Their details as follows: www.pdgough.com 0115 938 2241 stainless-exhaust@pdgough.fsnet.co.uk The Old Foundry Common Lane Nottingham NG16 1HD I can't give any recommendation since I've never used them. A subject not far from the back of my own mind. My 98 V6 still has the factory exhaust and is looking a bit ropey in a few places.
I had a PD Gough stainless system made for my previous car, 3.5L V8 Rover SD1 VDP EFI. The exhuast was well made, very neat tydy welds, polished tail pipe. It did take a bit of fitting and adjusting though. A quick touch with an acetylene torch and a small bend sorted that. My only critisism, but I think it applies to most aftermarket exhausts, was that he down-pipes were single walled tubes. Most OEM down pipes are either very thick metal, or better still made from one tube drawn inside the other. The heavy tubing is to damp out high frequency ringing in the pipes as the very hot gases pulse out of the manifold. Stainless being a much tougher material will not bend as easily as mild steel, so the makers tend to use thinner pipe. The result is an anoying tinkling or rustling noise from the down pipes under medium to hard acceleration. It sounds a bit like a leaking manifold gasket, but no leaks are obvious. I think the exhaust cost me about £400 back around 1992. -------------------- '98 'R' XM 2.9 V6 Exclusive Saloon RP 7777 Silver
