Hi Brian,
It's internal to the switch. I've had it on my previous car. Instead of replacing I usually tend to take everything apart, clean it and look for any obvious faults. Did this (cleaning) and it worked fine for at least a year and a half. (now sold) As I remember it it's pretty straightforward. Hi Brian,
Yes it will be the switch. I had this on a Xantia, changed the Stalk/switch and it solved it.. Shame, your just a bit too late, I've just sold my last Phase Two switch. I assume it has the LIGHTS on switch on it too?? If not I have a Series 1 stalk WITHOUT lights ON switch if its any use. Brian - the problem is caused by grease inside the switch getting dirty and becoming conductive. Get the switch out by removing the lower steering shroud and pushing up on the steering wheel. Then prise off the plastic cover on the switch with a small screwdriver, noting how it is assembled; clean out all the old grease carefully with cotton buds and some meths; re-assemble carefully with smears of new grease making sure the plastic tang which operates the indicator is properly seated. Re-insert in column - and Robert is your Daddy's brother. Did mine 2 years ago and it still works fine. Presumably the switch will again go AWOL after some time (years?) but by then either I or the car will have gone to that big Cit. garage in the sky.
Slainte! Wendham |
